I'm sick of this whole of the whole emo stereotype. It's a genre of music, not people who cut themselves :x

There was a kid back in middle school who was always cheerful & happy, wore bright colors etc. Now he's a freshamn at my HS and he dresses in all black, has uber skinny jeans, and has his hair combed over one eye...:|

i believe this is where you are wrong. the definition of an emo is someone who whines for no reason, dresses in tight clothes, and occasionally wears black. (they often have hair that drapes down in front of one eye)

loving the music is all fine and all (although some songs are hardly worthy of the word "music") but i also dont get why do people have to wear make-up, and try to look like the singers of those bands... i know a girl, who is trying to look like a certain male singer... the result? an ugly chick...

I recently saw a street performing Emo singing with his guitar. It sounded like a wailing manatee about to spontaneously combust. Almost ruined the perfectly good magic act next to him.

you are either over 35, under 12, or dumb if you think i am wrong. any middle school and high school has this group. emo is as much a group as jock; if emo people dont exist, neither do jocks, or nerds, or any group. you are just angry because you are probably an emo and are tired of being 'persecuted'.

I respect your opinion and you have every right to believe that the definition for emo is a group of kids that cut their wrists, wear black make-up, etc. But you seriously have to learn to accept other opinions besides your own. I'm 25 and I'm a music nerd who listens to everything from Techno to Jazz to Emo. So what are you going to do about it?

Edit; Do you think that the supposed "emos" have invaded the off-topic forum now?

listening to emo doesnt make you emo. being an emo (like described) makes you an emo. emo means emotional, not just a genre of music, and by emotional i mean always being depressed and thinking life sucks.

I think your thinking of someone who is melodramatic. Emotion has to do with a certain feeling. Being emotional means you exert those feelings. Sometimes people can be overly emotional but that would just bring us back to melodrama.

hmm.. have you been homeschooled, or out of highschool for the past 5-8 years? how else could you have not been exposed to the emo? emo are people who cut themselves because the world doesnt work exactly how they want. they always wear long sleeves or some sorts of bracelets to cover the cuts, and always have very tight pants. many of them have the whole hair over one eye thing. for all i know though, you could be just some /b/ screwin around with me. i truly dont understand how the whole nation can go from widely knowing what an emo kid is, to not having heard of it(and yes the whole nation; everybody on teh internets knew the term and so did everyone i have talked to in real life). a few months back if this topic was made, it would be 5 pages of 'hope those whiney emos cut too deep' or something like that. now they are being defended? maybe i need a new board.

I've been out of high school for over 7 years. I'm not defending these so-called emos, I just don't believe there is such a generalization. Do you get my point? I know where you're getting at, I just don't necessarily agree with you.

Actually I have a bit of knowledge of these socially inept people that have done nothing to offend but you still show offense towards. Every individual that goes to your high school represents something different. Maybe, you aren't willing to accept the fact that you're just as different as these kids.

These so-called "emo" kids you're talking about are just trying to be different. I doubt they really cut their wrists. And if they do, it's because they have a serious problem, not because they're whiny.

If you search google, the first wiki entry that comes up for "emo" is the stereotypical style that Crucifier is referring to.

Damn, don't people realize that just because they are right it doesn't mean the other person is wrong?

you are right. the only ones that dont cut their wrists are the emos that are only emo for the girls. i know a guy who used to be alright before he started being all emo, now its hard for me to even talk to him without him bringing up some government conspiracy or about why something should be a certain way. and no, they arent trying to be different. most of them act the same, and no one outside their 'group' likes them at all. do you understand what a goth is? or are you going to bring up something about 'oh there are no "goth" kidsit is a type of architecture(gothic) or a Germanic tribe'. emo are a far bigger group than goths, and the only people in high school that wouldnt admit that are emos or clueless.

The organization I am part of (Battlecry) is trying to help emos who cut themselves. It is a sad thing. To the OP, I think emos are people who have had a really depressing life and/or don't have any that loves them and/or want to fit in with a group, so they turn emo.

Damn, don't people realize that just because they are right it doesn't mean the other person is wrong?

You make an extremely valid point.

and through this point, i am right. i never said emo wasnt a genre of music, but i KNOW emo is a subculture of kids like i described, and can basically find proof if i google it, whereasyou said emo wasnt a group of people who cutthemselves(in which you are wrong;if someone cuts themself like that, 99.9999% chance they are emo.8) my logic = win

Wow, you just won't stop... This is your opinion, I have my opinion. Opinions aren't factual statements, they may be partially true but in no way, shape, or form are they the whole truth.

Grouping people by superficial features is so cool. Almost as cool as grouping yourself into a clique.

No, it's cool. I don't usually get offended by people that I don't know. I do believe there is such thing as the emo culture but only through the music scene.
