Seriously, you are performing a valuable service for a "for profit" business. Why would you work for free?

Are you thinking of a new job title for yourself?
@BranKetra: Absolutely I do. You work for a multi-million dollar corporation. You deserve to be paid. Most interns have been proven to be taken advantage of and used as free labour. Governments are looking at new laws because of this. At least interns, in theory, are learning about the industry and actually get their foot in more than just the entry job they are given...in theory. People should be paid for their work. It's not like it would put them out of business.
Back when I was a mod, honestly, I just loved being able to mod shit without having to wait for mods to get around to it. Log in to the forums and see a porn thread? BOOM! Deleted! Some asshole called me an asshole? SUSPENDED! Never did to wield the banhammer, though... Man, power is its own reward...
Corporate stinginess is such a petty and illiberal thing. By compensating mods, GS will be doing itself a favor first and foremost, as it contributes to the brand. No wonder a spam topic lingers in the forum for hours before it's removed.
You would think that, but honestly, they don't even pay their staff well enough. And by compensating mods, you would pretty much have to assign them shifts to watch the forums. When you get home from your full time job or school, you're probably not going to start another shift where all you do is monitor threads. It's usually why moderators HAVE to be on a volunteer basis. The only mods I know that get paid do it 40 hours a week as community managers and work out of offices, not from their homes.
Because e-peen.
I used to be a mod on another forum and the only thing I enjoyed about it was hanging out with the group of mods to shit talk about the idiotic posts we found.

They have really stepped up their reward policy lately. There is almost no more Superman on N64 anymore.
Yeah they're not torturing us. Its a step above torturing.
It makes them feel needed.
I imagine you have lots of problems based on your username.

Couldn't agree more.

I got a really good laugh out of this. Thank you sir.
> stumbles upon enjoyable forum to hang around in
> would like to maintain standard of forum because leisure time is spent there
> leisure time is important to everyone
> a seemingly efficient way of maintaining the perceived standard is to be granted certain technical privileges
> quality of leisure time spent is now safeguarded
i'm sure there are other reasons, depending on the individual, but i'm also sure this basic mechanic applies to nearly all mods because it's such a fundamental human trait
They feel inadequate in their daily lives and need to tell people what to do to feel secure. Moderators are the types who suck up to authority figures, and freak out when rules are broken.
*of course im over generalizing

I am glad you did :D
No pizza, no deal.
I've tried talking them into shipping a pizza over the Atlantic. But do you think anyone listens? No. It can't done they, it's to far away they claim. I say send it along with one of them long range rockets you have. And heat it on the way here. I simply can not see why this is a problem.
@dave123321: I'm just logging in to answer your question. If you really want to apply for a Moderator position, just PM DigitalDame about it. I'm sure you'll make a good Moderator. Remember, with great power comes great responsibility-Ben Parker.

It's like they don't care after all, I'll show those guys what happens when you don't bring home the bacon! ...I mean pizza!
Being a mod is great, but equally being a mod is tiring and time consuming. IE, a lot of your free time. Having to deal with genuine questions was very rewarding when I could impart some sound advice, or answer a question. Vitriolic PM's were one of the downsides after having to ban someone. As for volunteering to be a mod, I wanted to learn more about how a forum works and what tools a mod uses like the control panel, or however that would be termed.
Being accused of corruption and perceived injustice PM's from people under they are impression they are Gandhi sounds like a right giggle.
I assume you question unpaid interns as well for the same reason.
Not so much them but the fucked up system that allows corporations to not pay people for the work they do for them.
How do I apply to become a mod?
First off, you need to give the soul of your first born child to DigitalDame.
Free passes to the CBS whorehouse. I heard it's pretty great.
Alright, who talked? @horgen, I'm looking at you.

Man I didn't mean to, I was on my way home after having a good night and ran into him. Or so he told me.
