Religion is the fabric of life, I like to think that everything happens for a reason.
For some reason, people think that without religion, we would be happier. They think that the story would go, that everyone is living in harmony, peace. They have nothing to fight over. That's far from true. The fact is, religious wars are only a small part of it. People WILL find something to fight over, it's in our nature. If people didn't hate others because of their religion, they'll hate them for their race, nationality, or gender.
I am agnostic, which is basically a cautious atheist, but I was raised on Christian beliefs and so it's still all lodged in my brain. My point is, I still believe I am a good person. I have a conscience. I couldn't rape a girl, or murder someone without reason. I'd feel like such a bastard.
I think everyone has the capacity to be 'evil' and 'good' and the majority of us are 'good'. The reason I think, that people believe we are naturally evil is because the media only shows us those stories. Sure, there are 'evil' people, but they're the vast minority. So, I think we could still be good people without religious guidance.
Anyway, the world without religion wouldn't be much different than the world we have today. We need wars, natural disasters, and disease. Without them, we would all perish. We would have exhausted the planet and its resources a long time ago. Remember your country's population before WW2? I believe it was something like three times what is now in this country. We're only now starting to realise the danger of over-population. Do you think we would have realised in time?
I don't think so. I know this post is excessive and I haven't really hit any major points or been very concise. My bad. >_>
