It would probably too difficult to manage all of it. They do allow you to disable comments on your videos, which to me is enough moderation.

Who cares? They'll remove the account if the username is something like "ihatejews" or something or the comments are hate speech, but otherwise saying the F word isn't really a big deal. If you want hard-ass moderation, sign up for neopets.

The smartest thing is to let each user set their own word filters depending on what they want and do not want to see. I don't see why you'd punish the person swearing rather than provide the readers with individually controlled swear filters.

It's a delicate balance, but I guess they've figured most of their userbase would see them as an evil fascist arm of a ruthless corporate entity, instead of the cuddly bastions of free expression and sharing they really are.

This. I doubt that even the cyber police could keep up with it all. Although I do think that some of the comments on videos are atrocious.

Agreed. I'm not one to cuss, in fact I promised my gf I'd stop it altogether, but I see no reason to have these arbitrary wording filters. Hell my grandpa (born in 1920, had my mom when he was 50) thought "Fart" was a bad word to use; same with damn, hell, god damn, piss etc... To some God damn is worse than any other curse word, to others it's no big deal... Let people set their own personal filters.

I'm glad they don't moderate people. However, it seems like it woudn't be that hard to implement a censor that simply changes curse words to stars, or something like that. I guess they just don't care.

I think about half a dozen or so volunteer mods should be able to adequately moderate the site on their spare time. Not sure why Youtube hasn't done it yet.

Yeah pretty much this, if you can't handle the occasional swear you shouldn't be on the internet period. Even kindergartners have way more vulgar language than us here on Gamespot...

You can flag comments and videos for spam and offensive content anyway, there's just too much for them all to go though.

Maybe they just don't have enough moderators, who knows.

I think their main concern is to avoid copyright infringement lawsuits anyway.

We don't need more censoring. People swear all the time in real life anyways. Besides, users can simply delete those comments or flag them.

Too many users, not enough resources. I'm sure they could higher a huge moderation team if they wanted but it's probably not ideal for them to do. They give the users the ability to moderate there own videos or hide comments they don't like to see. If the creator of the video doesn't like the comments from one user they can block them entirely from watching any of their videos again.

It's a good system in my opinion.

There's tons and tons of videos with tons and tons of users commenting on them, and not all websites have to moderate swear words, it's just a word, I doubt they really care.

That would require hundreds of moderators working round the clock. Pretty soon it wouldn't be just language but also offensive material, spam, threats, etc.and there would have to be an "Ask the Mods" channel It's simply easier to just not ever view the comments. All we get anymore is swearing, J***** B*****, something about X number of people in regards to something terrible that should happen to them for everyone who clicked the dislike button, oh and let's not forget the *insert something here* THUMBS UP IF YOU AGREE!!!!1111ONE111! Youtube comments aren't even worth looking at anymore.

This. It would take months or years to clean up all the offensive words in comment sections. And it would probably take just as long to find mods who are willing spend that much time moderating all of the videos that have been and soon to be created on Youtube....
