link

"A group called Anonymous has hit sites that have refused to do business with the controversial whistle-blowing site with a series of distributed denial-of-service attacks."

"At the last count there were 507 mirrors of Wikileaks"

"As an organisation we have always taken a strong stance on censorship and freedom of expression on the internet and come out against those who seek to destroy it by any means."

"We feel that Wikileaks has become more than just about leaking of documents, it has become a war ground, the people vs. the government"

looks like wikileaks is gaining a lot of support, almost impossible to shut down now

The concept's out there. Even if it gets shut down, nothing prevents another site of equal purpose from being made.

I've told you ways that we can shut down those websites in the other thread. Still doesn't change the fact that they're idiots. Especailly this, "the people vs the government", yea okay  I will resist them whenever I can.

The ways you proposed in the other thread to shut down the sites were ludicrous and easily refuted.

They were all unfeesible though. If the funding, personnel and hosting comes from outside the USA, there's not much the USA can do. They haven't even been able to shut down Wikileaks.

I fail to see how attacking sites that don't agrew with wikileaks is a good thing. Either agree with our methods or we attack you? Sounds like a real open minded group.

Wikileaks will never get completely taken down, it's futile to even try. Maybe if the governments didn't have so much to hide or protected their secrets better they wouldn't be in such a mess.

when the government puts pressure on sites like amazon and paypal to stop supporting a website that is about providing information that leaked, that is an act against freedom of information. so they are retaliating on sites that didn't support them. you know internet freedom is in trouble when you have to visit sites that are hosted in other countries because your own country doesn't allow it.

read the link before posting more. same for you l4dak47 "The idea is not to wipe them off but to give the companies a wake-up call," he said. "Companies will notice the increase in traffic and an increase in traffic means increase in costs associated with running a website." Coldblood admitted that such attacks "may hurt people trying to get to these sites" but said it was "the only effective way to tell these companies that us, the people, are displeased".

i'm not one of them, but i can see their view because what is happening shows that once a website has negative information against the US, it will be taken down, so where did freedom of speech and information go? thats what they are trying to defend i think.

That isn't being defended. If you want to send a message to the sites thatdon't work with Wikileaksdon't go to the sites, don't attack the sites. But I guess freedom of speech only goes one way.

I think this is the main point that there's to be had.

when it comes right down to it, they're just as bad as the governments they're fighting
