Saw the other thread, huh? :P
Well I can't tell you because, if you haven't noticed by looking at that thread, I am all for gay marriage.
Exactly... that's the only thing they can come up with it.
My idea: two kinds of marriage
Traditional marriage: lawful and/or religious binding of a willing man and a willing woman
Marriage: lawful and/or religious binding of two willing partiesscorch-62
I think you mean three parties
theres no point for going against it. Just because gay marriage is illegal won't stop them from living together. It'll just mean they won't have that title or rights that married people have. We have no right to say how they should live.links136Interestingly....society does have a say in how others live.
why are there even people against it....is it really gonna effect them if someone they don't even know gets married to someone of the same sex?
i think not
I find it odd when people say its because they cant have kids and not procreating is a sin. But what about couples that choose to not have kids?Whicker89
better yet what about couples that cant have kids because of health reasons id like to see if they would call them sinners for things that are beyond there control .

What I meant was, it is a union between two individuals and the government.

Oh, lol, I thought you were hinting at God.
I don't think people are against it because of the reasons they post. I think they post the reasons they do because they are against it....... If that makes any sense. lol
I'm for gay marriage btw.

On topic: I don't care what gays do. Let em get married if they want to. I didn't even know they couldn't until it became big news a few years ago.
You have heard of laws.....have you not? You can even get fined if you grow your grass too long. You can't make additions to your house without permits. Residential and business are zoned by neighborhood. I'd say society has a great say in how we live. Can you elaborate?

To a certain extent, laws are constructive to society. They keep us safe, but you can't possibly argue that oppressing someone who has done you no harm is OK. Or constructive.
I think you are leaving God out of the equation of traditional marriage. :P stevenk4k5"lawful and/or religious"
There's more to religion than God. (see also: all religions/belief systems that aren't Christianity)
Why shouldn't it be ??collegeboy64IMO, I think someone should only have a commitment as deep as marriage to only one person. But that's just me. I'm sure there are other objections against it that I don't care to think of right now.
What I meant was, it is a union between two individuals and the government.FrattracideNo man has ever proposed to the government. Ever.
Gay marriage destroys the whole concept of marriage. It's a joining of two as one, a man and a woman = kids and a happy God. Also if gays are getting married soon 17-year olds will, because they love each other! and then people will marry like their dog or something. Also read Romans 1 verse 20 or somewhere around there for those who say only straight marriage is "Rubbish" Not to mention Sodom and Gomorrah were burned to the ground because they were filled to the brim with gays. The Bible is maybe 2000 years old, but it still applies, you can't take an apple and after 2000 say that it's a pear.
But that's just a religious response, atheists are almost impossible to convince either way, but hopefully I cleared up a little...
I personally don't care if two gay people want to get married, it's their buissness. What I don't like are all the dang gay pride parades, get married if you want but don't shuv it in my face.
redstorm72
Yeah, I can honestly say I'm against that as well because they are usually just overly vulgar to try to prove a point. But I guess i would feel the same way if there were Straight Pride events held in the same fashion.

Yeah, those are pretty embarrassing.

But, who validates the union? Who gives those people more rights than homosexual couples? The government.

I always laugh when people say that legalizing gay marriage will cause people to start marrying animals. And as far as i'm concerned, a 17 year old can already get married as long as there is parental consent.
And I can assure you that the Bible has had many revisions since it's conception (isn't that why there is an Old Testament and New Testament? That's not even counting various unnoted changes that had to have taken place seeing as how many hands the Bible has passed through over the years.
I'm hoping that was a joke.Gay marriage destroys the whole concept of marriage. It's a joining of two as one, a man and a woman = kids and a happy God. Yes, that was a very religious response. As for your other arguements: We do not prevent sterile poeple from joining in "traditional" marriage so saying that "man and a woman = kids" is pointless. Besides, marriage is not necessary to raise a family. Same-sex couples can still raise children; married or not.
In addition, to say that same-sex marriage will lead to people marrying dogs, and juveniles marrying each other is irrelevant. We are NOT talking about those things, this is an issue of same-sex marriage. If, in the future, someone wants to marry their dog, then we can deal with that seperately. But dont try to put it in the same boat as same-sex marriage because they are two completely different things, and you know it.
Again...I responded to a specific point about society controlling how we live. Which it does. Period. Actually I'm rather tired of this subject. I don't particularly endorse marriage for anyone. But that is not the what topic is about. And the question of society is only relevent to the topic in this case. So will you answer the question or do you have an opinion on the topic?

Which holds about as much water as "Someone should only have a commitment as deep a marriage to someone of the opposite sex." It comes down to the same 'none of your damn busines' and 'equal rights' arguments as exist for gay marriage.Qooroo
No... No, it doesn't. :?
But, who validates the union? Who gives those people more rights than homosexual couples? The government. Frattracide
But are the man and the woman married to the government? Just because the validation is doneby the government doesn't make the government a part of the bond.
