I wouldn't be surprised if The Revenant cleaned house, it got 12 nominations, and only reason I don't see it getting every one of them is because Mad Max got 10 nominations. Funny though, Tom Hardy got nominated for both lead actor and supporting one but his supporting role from The Revenant was a much better performance than his Mad Max role. Also, I like Matt Damon but I don't think he deserved a best actor nomination for The Martian. Even his cameo appearance in Interstellar tops his entire performance in The Martian.
He didn't get nominated for best lead actor.
Anyway, I also doubt it's gonna be a clean sweep, but for politics and appearances and such. Realistically, this is likely George Miller's last chance to win a best director Oscar, so I think that's going to him (though I doubt that Mad Max will win best picture). This is also realistically Sylvester Stallone's last chance for an Oscar, so I think he's getting it. Also, I definitely think that DiCaprio is winning the award, just to get people to shut the hell up about how the man never won an Oscar.
But yeah...I see a lot of the awards just going to whoever. But I think that appearances are gonna play a big role this year. Especially with the whole "#noblackoscars" thing, there's a lot of talk about the Oscars increasingly being out of touch with popular sentiments. Which, it sort of should be. Part of the whole reason why people care about the Oscars in the first place is because it's elitist. If the awards just went to who the public wanted to win, then it'd essentially just be the People's Choice Awards and no one would give a shit. Still, ratings and money are kind of important, so I think there's gonna be an attempt this year to go with the more "popular" choices.
