Dose anyone ever thought that question before?

Note: Do not attempt to derail this thread into a religious/philosophy related topic please.

I don't think it ever will. Every new scientific breakthrough sheds some light on some things but reveals even more unknown territory.

What do you mean by science? Do I think man will ever know everything there is to knno? No, we will never even come close. Or do you mean is science limited or inifite? Yes.. knoweldge/science has an end point.. one that we will never reach.

If the universe has an end point in both ways (size of universe and infinately tiny particles that we don't know of yet), then science has limits. If not, there are no limits. There is a limit to the usefulness of science though.

Nope. The scientific method is designed to always be refutable and adaptable. There will always be a "better" answer out there, and it is the scientists job to find it.

I think it will go on and on and on, and then there will be a few more major discoveries that can double our possible knowledge, then it repeats in a similar pattern until the end of time.

But if you think about it, we are going pretty dern fast with where we are now. New stuff is being found everyday.

My guess is that there are several elements that we will find. The periodic table might turn into the periodic **** skyscraper.

I dont think there will be an end.

lol the only way for science to reach its limits is if we know EVERYTHING!! and that will never ever happen

Considering we know almost nothing about the Universe, or even our own planet, I don't see it ever reaching its limit.

Probably not, but if we somehow activate a technological singularity, then we may get pretty close.

No, there will always be stuff to discover. The real question is how long before scientific work becomes so prohibitively involved that findings begin to slow down?

We're already starting to see this with physics. A normal study can easily involve 50+ authors whereas other fields still have 1-3 author averages. And really all of science except for astronomy has already become so intellectually demanding that amatuer science is no longer feasible like it used to be a century ago. It used to be that a lot of breakthrough scientific discovers were made by guys just doing science as a hobby in their basements. Nowadays you pretty much need to have committed to science as a career and have a PhD education to contribute anything meaningful. Astronomy, like I said earlier, is the one exception but only because amatuer astronomers can contribute by finding new planets, stars, galaxies, comets, etc. The actual theories and hypotheses though are the exclusive realm of professionals.

There was some obvious overexagerration but I do think that some of the formulas are ridiculous and many scientists try to prove things that cannot be proven and for the amount of money they spend on studies to find nothing more then what they already knew

NEVER, since our universe is grwing at light speed and we probably will never be able to travel faster than light speed we'll never get out of our universe and will always wonder what's outisde of it and since it's growing there will always be something new

Possibly. If we have a perfect explanation for every possible observation in the universe (or outside the universe), then that would mean it has technically reached its limits. Will "it ever reach that"? I do not know.

I believe it;s growing faster than light speed. Remember, the limit of matter travelling at the speed of light only occurs within the universe. It isn't a problem with the universe itself or the expansion of it.

That's just the boundary, not matter/energy. When I say outside our universe, I mean outside our current physical observations.

True in physics we won't be able to test string theory, superstring theory, loop quantum gravity and all these other obscure theories for at least a 2000 years from now. We simply don't have the technology.

Yes and no. We could perhaps continue being taught into infinitely into the future, but science has philosophical limits and is not able to answer every possible question.

I would say that if science contintues to advance at this rate then perhaps in a million years there just won't be a lot of interesting things to learn - we'll know everything thats important and will have invented pretty much every possible usefull invention.

yes. as soon as the large hadron collider kills us all, science along with everything else, will reach its limit. :p but if i were to be serious about all this, i probably wouldnt care because i wont live long enough to find out which hypothesis is correct. i see 2 possible outcomes. 1: we bring about our own destruction and never know if there even is a limit to science. Or 2: it takes too freaking long, and i dont live to see the day. either way, it wont matter to me.

Science will reach it's limits with the current mathematics and physics we use to describe how the universe works. String theory (or M theory) is the next step in science.
