I know that we as humans always want to move on to better technologies, but I have been debating this for a while.

Will the internet be as necessary to life as electricity (which people have used for many years)? Or will it fade out like many technologies of the past (like facsimilies and pagers)?

I think it's permanent..now college courses are not only taught online but lectures are "enhanced" with online resources and many other things..it's a quick way to communicate and find information as well..

I agree, but couldn't the same thing be said about faxes? It's the best thing since the mail system?

Why not? What do you feel it needs to be more of a "future proof" technology?

No, we dont need to buy encyclopedias, we dont need to wait weeks to know a war has started, we can now comunicate with people across the world. It changed humanity for the better. Just think about how many times the internet has made your life easier.

It's the internet way of saying a puppy. You know, little kids say "goggy" instead of "doggy" or "puppy".

Tc, if you want to learn more about how the internet would change our lives. Id strongly suggest watching all three episodes of 2057. It was made in 2007, showing what the world might be like in 50 years. I know its not accurate, but how could it be. Anyway, it really shows how the internet could change us.

I think it will evolve and change beyond it's current form. I think that, now it's established, a large network of individuals sharing information will always exist, but how we access and interact with that data might be entirely different from what we are used to now.

I understand, its hard to think of how it would work exactly, but its not our job to do that.

That sounds believable. I reckon a lot of data is going to be dispersed rather than the whole thing being stored locally with licences to access the data distributed centrally. I also think a completely different system of online currency is going to emerge.

No, it will be replaced by the super Internet, which will be known as the Inter Web. I don't think the Internet is important, it's just the most interesting form of entertainment currently available.

For example you can play a game on line and watch some other user's Internet connection kick your ass.

Yes. The term file will replace the term book someday. Most kids know what a computer file is before they know the oceans.
