Since we have sour memories with Bush, and there's been a more impressive Democratic turnout in the caucuses and primaries held so far, do you think that the Republicans will lose the White House come the end of the elections?

I'm just hoping McCain won't be the next president. I found out that Tommy Thompson is endorsing him...

I think it depends on which candidate gets nominated for the Democrats. If it is Obama I think that he would win the election because he has a lot of liberal support, and could even get a decent amount of the moderate/"angry-at-Bush" Republicans to vote for him. However, so many people (even liberals) dislike Clinton that I think she would have a difficult time winning against McCain.

Turnout numbers don't really mean much. Ind. voters go either way. There is no telling which way they go in the general election.

Yeah, I think the Democrats have it on lockdown. The Bush admin. took neoconservatism and flushed it (along with the Republican party) down the toilet. Good riddance I say.

It looks like the Democrats are going to win given how a lot of Republicans are split over John McCain.

That's blown out of proportion. They can boo all they want. I highly doubt they would stick a Democrat in office in spite.

Maybe it is but I don't think the tactics that the Ann Coulter's of the world are promoting will win many people to the GOP.

If it's Hilary vs. McCain it can go either way. If it's Obama vs. McCain then we will probably have a democratic president.

Now that Romney's out McCain can start fighting for the republicans in the general election while the Hilary and Obama are fighting amongst themselves. There's a good chance that will turn out to be a deciding factor; we better hope Hilary and Obama settle things sooner than later.

Whoever wins the Democratic nomination will win the election. There are far too many people upset with the Bush Admin to put in another Republican.

Even though the conservative base hates him, McCain is quite popular with moderates and independents. I think the last polls (link and link) showed him just slightly ahead of both Obama and Hilary with the general population. Don't count him out.

A lot of people vote simply based on the party next to a candidate's name. They'll go into the booths and think "Hmm, McCain- Republican. Bush was a Republican, I don't want more of the same. Democrat it is."

It's unfortunate, but that's how it goes.

^^ Heh heh... I'm pretty sure that's not how it goes... things in the news like Clinton's tear seem to have a direct impact on popular opinion. And polls are designed very carefully to get a accurate sample of the population (although sometimes they are off).

I agree that sometimes people read too much into things though.
