Windows 7 breaks 20% share barrier

Windows 7 cracked the 20% share mark last month, a milestone the problem-plagued Vista never reached, a Web measurement vendor said over the weekend.

Statistics provided by Net Applications on Saturday put Windows 7's online usage share at 20.9% in December, up 1.2 percentage points from the month before.

Windows Vista, meanwhile, fell by half a point to 12.1%, its lowest share since July 2008. Vista peaked at 18.8% in October 2009, the same month that Microsoft launched Windows 7.Computerworld

Many here deem Windows 7 to be the first great Windows operating system in ages. That is understandable when considering the launch of Windows Vista and Windows XP's age. Who here has made the switch and who here won't? Do feel free to explain yourself!

I LOVE windows 7. I also like vista a lot also but 7 is almost perfect.

7 is alright... but it's still very glitchy for me. Windows Media Player is broken, the preview pane won't stay at a fixed size and Java updates now and then only to tell me I have the latest version and I just wasted my time.SolidSnake35

my new laptop has it and it seems to be working great. Although the java updates that pop up everytime I turn it on are rather annoying.

I have 1 computer that runs vista and im pretty sure all the other computers are on XP

I have windows 7. I like it. I never went down the Vista route, however. My previous OS was XP which was also fairly stable.

I'm primarily a Mac user, so I don't understand usually when people say Vista sucks or whatever. What makes Vista so bad? I have Windows 7 on my Laptop, and it's pretty good, not much to complain about.

My favorite Windows OSes are XP and 7.

This is the first I'm hearing of Jolicloud. I dual boot with Ubuntu (and in the past, Fedora Core).

i love Windows 7, Windows 7 is done right from Vista. i use to have Vista, yeah its a good OS but very buggy till Win-7 came out and i go that man! windows can be so much better. love how they made it more user friendly when trying to see what a program is and where is it located at

I do however overall like Ubuntu Netbook edition though, just having trouble getting use to the new interface from the previous one. They are also bring the same crazy interface to the desktop version with 11.04. Gnome is also changing :?Fuhgeddabouditt

I am not a fan of the Netbook Edition of Ubuntu - too cluttered for my tastes.

It's a great OS.

But dear lord, is the task manager bad. The one thing I miss from XP is being able to f***ing end my processes instead of asking them nicely to stop.

I know. That's what I've always done, and Win7 just doesn't kill hanging processes nearly as consistently as XP did.Cherokee_Jack

Windows 7 is very similar to Vista, in design. Windows 7 is Vista, without the bugs and resource hogging.

I use to have my harddrive setup where I could boot into Windows Xp, Vista and 7 all at the same time, I benchmarked a few games on each, Vista won none, XP and 7 were hand in hand, which I found impressive. Because obviously Windows 7 uses more resources then XP.

The problem with Vista, was Mac users who never even used Vista complaining about how many problems it supposedly had.harashawn

Uh disagree. Vista was crap.. As a pc gamer it was obnoxious as hell to use.. It was a resource hog, where XP outperformed it 99% of the time.. DX10 was a major let down, we were led to believe to see a immense performance INCREASE.. We never saw such a thing.. It also was at times instable, and drivers were hard to find.. Especially for 64bit.. Many older programs and games were either unstable play on vista with, or completely impossible.. The UI also was annoying with changes that made navigating more difficult rather then easier.

7 is a great Operating System, I've been working with it for 5 months now and I haven't had a single problem.

I love Vista, and I won't be spending my money on changing it to Windows 7 until I get another computer, which will probably be the end of the year.
