Give the beta a shot and see what you think. Or just use Ubuntu.

Having used the RC for weeks on two computers, it is better than Vista. A lot better.

I told you that. :x But yeah, Win7 is good. It's superior in every single way. I'd recommend it, but try the beta first.

If you're in the market for an OS then get it, otherwise don't.... no reason upgrading unless there's a certain feature you require.

I'll stick with XP, especially since I know most of my games will work on it. I see no compelling reason to shell out money for some features I probably won't really care all that much about.

Also, the rule of thumb is to never use a new version of Windows until at least the second service pack is out anyway.

Heres my Vista "review" : ""This is the worst operating system I have ever used. The thing is as clean and fast as a whistle once you get it, but the longer you use it, the more its obvious its a POS. Don't be surprised if opening My Computer takes forever in a day to load. Don't be surprised if Windows Explorer Crashes on startup. Don't be surprised if startup takes 2-3 minutes(I'm using a friggin Alienware and have with 3 antiviruses). Windows Vista's "eyecandy" may look good, but it affects system performance. During random times of the day, the processor is hard at work, even when NOTHING (no games, no apps) are open. WTF. When you open a browser page with a quicktime file; the screen flashes and takes 10 seconds to change to Windows Vista BASIC mode because of incompatability issues. Other then that, programs like Word seem to run slower. Vista is full of compatability problems. Another problem you will encounter is the Task Manager. When you press CTRL ALT DEL, it takes you to a login screen type page where you select your options. WTF. This is especially frustrating as when you are having system stability problems, it takes ages and may even lock up. A problem I also had with Task Manager was that fact that pressing CTRL ALT DEL caused the system to lock up and forced me to cold boot it. I've cold booted my poor Alienware 30-40+ times because of problems. :'(. Its 2009. Vista came out in 2006. Shame on you Microsoft for releasing such an unpolished, unfinished product that is still troublesome even to this day. 1/10 => that 1 is for effort. In conclusion, XP runs MUCH better.""
