I know a few of the fellas on here have seen the film, but for those that haven't, check out Wolf Creek.

This is one scary film. I watched it last week on DVD. I thought it was really skillfully made, despite what some others thought of it.

(Thumbs down? Thanks Ebert :P )

The trailer really doesn't do it justice

Im going to be studying this film at University this coming semester

Its the fact that a great deal of attention - about 30 minutes in a 90 minute movie - is spent developing the characters before anything goes down. When the **** hits the fan, it feels more realistic and thus horrifying, as we believe that this could actually happen and that it is happening to these 'real' people. Oh and because John Jarratt is also bloody scary lol :P

I like paced movies but I thought this was kind of dragged on and on. By mid movie I was annoyed by the characters and didn't really care anymore.

The only thing I liked about it was the end.
I liked how it reversed the "final girl" trend and it was the guy who survived".
but other than that I thought it was mediocre with uninteresting characters,a killer that tried too hard and a gore level that along with hostel people think is over the top but is really tame for anyone who has seen a lot of films in the genre.

I hated Wolf Creek. There wasn't any plot, it wasn't scary and it wasn't enjoyable. At least Saw and it's sequels had some amount of entertainment value to them.

Better then Hostel? hell no! Hostel "1" and "2" are some of my favorite horror movies. I saw Wolf Creek a while ago though--I thought it was alright, but not memorable. In my opinion--both Saw and Hostel were much better.

^_^ It seems my local Walmart has Wolf Creek in for the low price of $8 (and it's unrated -gasp-). >>; Whenever I see Hostel I always think Hostage...and then I think "What was so scary about that movie?"...but it's actually Hostel, and yes, it does look scary. Might get that today too.

actually none of the film is actually true, but it was based on the backpack murder's and the british guy who was killed in the desert by was it Peter Falconio? which both are in jail. they only say it was based on real events to add the extra scare factor to it, even though it wasnt that scary at all (even for me and im terrified of horror stuff )

Hostel is little more than torture pr0n used to titillate teens. Actually calling it torture pr0n is unfair as there are really only 10 minutes of the Saw horror elements. The first half of the film is like watching soft core pr0n. There's no purpose about it and the changes in tone from pr0n, to saw, to chase sequences are just absurd and indicative of the lack of thought in the plot. The bit with the eyeball was particularly disgusting and unnecessary.

In what ways? The character makes sense in some ways: we never get into his psyche - it would be impossible to do so - but he is resourceful, he knows the land extremely well, he's sinister in voice and appearance, seemingly friendly at first to coax people in, resilient etc.

I think he was also meant to be inspired slightly by Crocodile Dundee.

lol! Yah, that eyeball part almost made me throw up. But call it whatever you want I guess. You're kinda right though as far as the first one goes. But I felt the second installment was was executed a little better though(you should see it if you haven't already)--it's clearly emphasizing more on money, corruption, deceitfulness and humanity at an all time low in general. It felt like it made more sense then the first one--and it was just as scary, sick, twisted, and entertaining to me overall.

Saw and hostel aren't even horror films IMO. There's nothing scary in any of them... gross yes.. scary no... the fact that the little doll guy in saw explains exactly what will happen in the traps alone removes any tension or surprise you might get.

I disagree. I think that the presentation, effects and cinematography that was used in Saw made it a scary movie and gave it the, "What if that was me?" feeling to it. While Hostel is your typical goreography.

I actually prefer the others that you mentioned to Wolf Creek. But I hated the villain in Wolf Creek so much that if I ever met the actor that played him I would probably spit in his face. The part with the fingers hitting the ground really got me too, so I wouldn't hesitate to call it effective. In fact I'll have to watch it again now that you got it on my mind.

The based on true events thing is somewhat bothersome as from what I understand the surviving male was not properly investigated, in spite of the fact that there was never a shred of evidence as to the existence of this outback killer that he claimed killed the two young women.

That would make The Uninvited (haven't seen it) one of the worst movies ever then.

Wolf Creek was alright, but I didn't think that it was anything special. There were some good moments, but overall it was kind of mediocre. I don't think that it's better than Saw, but it's better than Hostel. Hostel was a joke.

I was not a fan of Wolf Creek, I only liked one part that was executed perfectly. I love the Saw series, I know much don't. I am tired like everyone else of the many sequels of saw but Saw 1 and 2 were brilliant. I agree though, Hostel was terrible. So if I had to choose Saw > Wolf Creek > Hostel.

I am rarely creeped out by a movie, but Wolf Creek did a tremendous job. Everything about this movie was believable, the characters, the setting, and just the realism of it. It was brutal and graphic but not in a hack'n'slash way such as Hostel. And it was really brutal. The torture that the characters go through (sorry if thats considered a spoiler but its kind of obvious) was so hard to watch in places.Definately a must see. Also, if you liked Wolf Creek then you should really check out DYING BREED (limited release) and ACOLYTES (very limited release), although these probably arent available outside of Aus. Dying Breed has Leigh Whannell from Saw and Nathan Phillips from Wolf Creek, and Acolytes sports a great cast of upcoming Aussie talent (and no I dont work at these movie studios).
