OMG, I've been hearing lots of stuff happening over the internet lately. Many people getting into trouble while they arent even criminals.
I mean, its maplestory, not like your a big time warlord. At the most you get IP banned from MS.
Dont you think those who hack in MS , you know those leechers, they do much worse...?
[QUOTE="ShimmerMan"]What I don't understand is how 5000 dollars translates into five years of someones life in jail. Shouldn't it be five monthsIamGrunt
Thats exactly what is bothering me. I dont get it.
Byt still, that guy is a **** to have reported to police....
Those are the maximum penalties for the offence. If she's convicted she's likely to only pay a fine. If she gets jailtime she will probly get something like a year, and then she'll most likely only serve about half of that with good behaviour.
But seriously, if you can't see how hacking into a game server and deleting files which are not ment to be deleted then you have a seriously flawed view of reality. Hacking is a crime. If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

Thats the truth, a real hardcore truth..but still...theres a "but" if you know what I mean. MS...poor woman..only for a game.

True true, but like I said, it's pretty unlikely she will get any real jailtime. The media just talks about the maximum penalty because that makes a better news story.
She should just get 2.5 years for being on Maplestory and getting "Married" on it.
The guy who is at the center of it should get the other 2.5 for being on Maplestory and getting fictionally "married" to a crazy (fill a delightful explitive here), and he publically humiliated for the above, and being on Maplesotry.

You're right. It should be 50,000 or 5 years in jail. 5000 is just not enough.
Today on Yahoo! I read about this woman who virtually divorced her virtual husband without warning. Hacked his account, and deleted(killed) his character. She is now under charges for manipulating electronic data and may have to pay 5,000 dollars or spend 5 years in jail!! All over Maplestory! Lol.nicknees93
Good. First her, and then maybe we can start sticking pirates injail as well.

WHAT a AMAZING idea with the overflowing jails we have, screw people convicted of murder, assault, and other violent or serious crimes.. We should go after people who steal a free game account..

Well, if the jails were overflowing with those kind of people youd have a point... sure they are there, but there overcrowded much due to people who shouldnt be in jail in the first place.
The game is free, like Wolfenstein:Enemy Territory.
No one gave up any cash for any advancement in the game, so there was no actual loss of any kind of property, physicall or digital. How she can still get chrged for it, is beyond me. There may be some loop hole that involved, because this is beyond petty.

So if it was a paid MMO its different? Why? You spend a 1000 hours on a character, someone deletes you, you dont care?

No, and it's not like I haven't felt that kinda of loss.
I used to play Matrix Online for quite a while and had my character all suped up. Then a friend of mine wanted to try it out, and I told him he could deleted some characters that I wasn't using, but he deleted my main guy instead. 7 months of gmeplay and some cash went down the drain with that, but I didn't pursure the loss of character like this cat it. It's just a game.
But that's just me.
