Working on a church billboard...

I've recently been asked to design a billboard for a church I'm interning at. I've been going through and looking at many other billboard designs both secular and religious. I've come up with a few ideas myself but do not have anything I'm completely satisfied with just yet. I'd thought I'd call on my fellow Gamespotters to see if any of you have any ideas.

I've looked at other example billboards and have mostly come away in disgust. Examples range from very condescending phrases to some rather cliche sayings none outside of church would even understand. The best thing I've seen though fake is the following picture which is slightly less moral than I'd wish it to be. This is the type of thing I'm looking for however.

Here is another billboard which is the type of thing I'm looking for.

Here are two concept billboards I've already come up with for the church. The first is a simple billboard design but has nothing which makes it stand out above any other billboard.

and this one I'm not happy with for whatever reason...

btw, please do not think I'm doing this to make my job easier... I'm just out of ideas after thinking about it for several weeks.

Let me know if any of you have any ideas. Have fun with it. It's purpose is to attract people to the church.

Edit: Here is the beginning of one based upon some of the stuff you all have said. I'm not done with it but the concept is here. I'll quite possibly add a more visual element to it. btw, the website it is wrong... but I'm too lazy to fix it at the moment...

I'd be extremely surprised if my pastor would let me put that on the billboard. Not that it's untrue though. We just are not a very hellfire and damnation preaching congregation.

I like the first one. The others I don't care much for. Here's one I like. You can take the idea and change it somehow if you can.

Hey I just thought of something, quote the "I am the way and the truth and the life" verse and underneath write something along the lines of "Hell? Who said anything about Hell?" or something like that.

Actually, what you should do is find a verse that resonates with you. Statistically speaking, if it affects you very deeply there will be others who will have the same response.

If all else fails, people are always looking for forgiveness, or understanding (someone with open arms if you will), so find a verse that communicates that too them.

Make one that says this:

"Americans are always running low on GOD. They get near empty, but heres some news...

...He's already payed the price at the pump...

...so come and fill your life with living fuel."

You two are remindinig me of a made up religion me and a friend of mine thought up. It's called Christmas. Orginal I know. What happens is that when you are good the great deity Santa Claus gives you coal as an energy source... The religion seems to be more complex with each passing day...

I did not quite understand what you were trying to say by the second line dealing with hell. Do not be :( about it though.

I meant (I don't believe this, so I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's it, right?) he promised those who follow him life, as opposed to death, heaven, as opposed to hell, so "I am the way and the truth and the life" and then "'Hell? Who said anything about Hell?' - Jesus". Or something like that.
