OK so I go heard about this movie about three weeks ago, from Filmguy I think (on Gamespot), and some friends of mine were like "Oh my god! That movie is soooooooo dark"
So I was like "Wow, really" expecting something equivelent to the film Happiness, which is likely one of the darkest humor movies to have been released for decades.
And what do I get?
A freaking feel-good movie.
OK so it has tones of darkness; the son dies, but the movie takes a severe turn for the positive after that. The whole film is based about turning negatives into a positive, and lying to do so.
The whole movie is another teen angst, Catcher in the Rye cry baby story about bullsquat everyone will worship despite the fact.
As I said, its a feel good movie. The whole tone of the movie is "Damn the world, I'm gettin' mines, baby!"
It was a well-made movie, I want to love it, but those expecting dark humor will be severely disappointed. Maybe I am jaded after years of enjoying depressing, disturbing dark humor/drama movies, but people were hyping this up as the most disturbing thing ever.
Williams was excellent though
There is nothing disturbing or unsettling about this movie.
