The title explains it all. Please do not mention the books schools require you to read. IMO Narnia: the witch , the lion, and the wardrobe was boring.

I forget the name of it, I think it was called Tangerines or something, but it was so dull and unexciting. The main character is some boy who moved from mexico to america and talks about teen drama which happens to everyone. He probably didn't konw that and wrote a book thinking it was something special.

Abridged Version:

Women decides she doesent wanna be a mom. She neglects her kids. Decideds she doesent like her husband, cheats on him while hes gone. Then she cheats on the guy she cheating with with another guy (confusing, i know). Then she drownds herself, leaving her kids motherless... :|

Homecoming by Cynthia Voigt. I wasn't interested in any of the books I had at the time, and my teacher had a bunch of copies in his room. It was horrible. Story got nowhere after 100 pages, characters were pure idiots, and it was really repetitive.

Living History was pretty bad. I thought The Audacity of Hope was poor as well. Granted, that's all subjective.

School books ruined reading for me....I dont read voluntarily anymore.....school forces so many awful books on me that in my free time im not gonna waste my time reading...

School ruined reading for tons of people....thats why we dont read as much anymore....which is making us less intelligent....which means school is making kids stupider....so its doing the exact opposite of what its supposed to be doing....its making people reject learning and all that stuff.... so lets all fight the power and not go

Catcher in the Rye was completely boring most of the time, but a couple parts were pretty funny.

Romeo and Juliet, if that counts as a book. Yes it was a play, but reading it in it's entirety was painful, as is all Shakespeare to me honestly.

"To Build A Fire" by Jack London is the absolute worst piece of literature I have ever had the displeasure of reading. I love reading and am somewhat of an english buff, but wow, this short story sucked. It just rambles on and on and on and on and on. Please, never read it.

lol, that's the lamest excuse for not reading I've ever heard. If you are aware that the books the schools are making you read don't represent the majority of books, than it isn't going to "ruin reading."

I know how you feel, this happened to me too. About 5 months ago my mom gave me a book called christineby stephen king. At first I did not want to read it but when I read the first chapter I wasinstantly hooked. I read everywhere , in the bathroom, in my kitchen, in my school, inmy room , well everywhere. I am currently reading another stepheng king book , salems lot.

School isn't just for facts. School teaches you how to learn, organize, socialize and deal with authority (teacher = boss). You can't get that from Wikipedia. I will admit there are (many) problems with the current system but not having a system isn't going to help.

I didn't like how pretentious the book is. Dawkins is caught up in his own hype. There's better atheist texts out there, such as "Atheist companion guide" and "Atheism in the modern history."

I kind of agree.....usually when there is one of these book threads I post my favorite book (Go Dogs, Go by P.D Eastmen) and people flame me .......at that point I just ignore them because they obviously have no clue what they are talking about...

[QUOTE="RoyTheViking"]"To Build A Fire" by Jack London is the absolute worst piece of literature I have ever had the displeasure of reading. I love reading and am somewhat of an english buff, but wow, this short story sucked. It just rambles on and on and on and on and on. Please, never read it.Schnauzerz
Wow. A little less time playing Pokemon, a little more time hitting the books. These threads enrage me when I see the lack of appreciation of great literature

You know there's this thing, it's called an opinion and each person has a different one. Get over yourself. Just cause a guy didn't like some book you did he's an illeterate. This kind of elitist BS is what turns people off from reading.

Hm.. The Pigman or something like that. I don't remember the books I read that sucked. xD I usually forgot them after I read them. I have to read The Scarlet Letter this year, but I don't know if it'll be any good or not...will just have to wait and see.

Only if you arent stupid. Its amazing and it is considered to be the greatest American novel, right next to Huck Finn and Moby Dickk

Mody Dick made me want to kill myself.

When a story elicits the same emotional response that To Build A Fire elicited from me, I become very much angered when people casually toss it to the curb.

The Diary of Anne Frank. That book was torture for me. I'm sympathetic for her situation but I definitely did not enjoy her diary.
