I'd imagine the hate-on for Shyamalan is because he tends to get decent stories put together, and then demolishes them with a really crappy twist. I mean, if all his movies are based on the idea that there's a twist to them, the twist will be anticipated, and people will be looking for it early on. In films like The Village, it was incredibly easy to tell the twist early on. In Signs, the twist was just ridiculous and anticlimactic, much like Unbreakable's twist. Good enough movies without Shyamalan's reputation, but he ruins his movies before anyone sees them, and that's depressing.-Twilight-
Well that is why The Happening sucked so much. There was no twist, the movie ended making no sense and being as pointless as when it began.

The twist in the happening
was that it wasn't just something in the air, the planet/plants/trees/w.e was actually attacking the people and it wasn't just some scientific mystery
That is even worse then no plot twist at all.

I think Sunshine was the one that dissapointed me that most, the plot twist that turned the film into pretty much a slasher made me sigh out loud. I loved the film and would give it a 9 maybe even a 9.5, but the plot twist changed the score into about a 8.Film-Guy
lol, i saw it coming for sunshine from a mile away. Western movie developers are unable to make a good space movie without turning it into sum derivative slasher pic. I just have a question, how many people have been slashed to death in space? How many murders in space!? Then why the hell are people so obsessed with slashers in space!? Can't we have a romance movie in space!? If its a western movie about space 90% probability there is a lot of slashing going on (whether by aliens or humans) or its some "save the world" movie.

Hancock did not have a twist. The whole thing was anticipated since the beginning of the film.

how? how did you see that coming?

Hmm. There's a movie where people escape to an island away from all these horrible creatures, only to await more horrible creatures! The credits roll after this. Real cheesy movie. Can't remember the name of it but remember one scene where a guy does not have any ammo in his gun, so he has to die painfully (eaten by a creature).Thorpe89

I consider Sunshine one of my all time favorite movies, but even I have to agree that story development was weak. It was just too sudden and over-the-top compared to the rest of the film. I also felt Danny Boyle was experimenting with camera styles during the finale that didn't really work (the blurriness and the freeze frames).

However. After that twist is introduced, the movie still features at least two scenes which I consider to be absolutely brilliant and some of my favorite scenes of all time:
Capa's Jump and the ending. Capa's jump has the incredible John Murphy score playing in the background (the fact that this song is now being used in trailers for movies all over like Wolverine, shows how awesome it is), and the imagery and Capa's scream are just so powerful...I love it. And the ending was beautiful IMO. The way time seems to slow from the combination of the explosion and being inside in the sun allows Capa to touch the surface of the sun...love it.
So yeah, the twist is a little lame, but I still think the movie has too many flashes of brilliance for me not to give it at least a 9/10.

You know what's one of my favorite scenes in a movie? In "Finding Neverland" there is a scene where Johnny Depp and his wife are talking, and they walk into their seperate bed rooms. They both open their doors and in the through the crack you see that her room is normal, while his is a beautiful field with plants and animals. Great symbolism for showing his lively imagination. IMO, genius comes with subtlety not, loudness :D

Bad plot twist, but, hey, that's not surprising, given it was a bad movie :P.

C'mon. The first time you saw The Sixth Sense, you weren't caugh off-guard? I mean, it did not prove to be a twist at all? I, for one, was completely suprised.

Any I am your father, mother, or so and so relative twist are lame maybe except for Star Wars..

Recent movie twist that felt lame..

Eagle Eye - Pretty cliche twist if you've seen the movie

Wanted - Wow really?? The characters are talking orders from (spoiler)Hidden Messages within pieces of fabric?? Sounds original but hard to believe.

Worst plot twist
Worst sequel

Film-Guy

That film had a twist? I thought it was just a really weird plot near the end. I didnt hate the film, Ron Perlman was good as usual. You do not know bad sequels until you see crap like Bad news bears 3 or Caddyshack 2.

They have a saying "best golfing movie,Caddy Shack. Worst golfing movie, Caddy Shack 2. As for twist I would have to say IT, the movie was good up to...
The end where they go and kill IT but they find out its an alien, seriously ruined the movie for me.
Hancock with the guy's wife. Seriously, I was hoping for some kind of legitimate villian or something but as that plot twist happened the whole rest of the movie was all dramatic about them.

Catacombs - 2007. It has one of the most pointless plots i've ever witnessed. You watch an annoying girl run & scream for over an hour in some sort of dark catacomb chased by a mad killer. The mad killer turns out to be her friend playing a prank on her. The only prank here is the film itself.

Did this movie include a blond girl, a serial killer looking guy, two cops, one of whom is the mother of the main kid in the movie? Was the guy who got eaten bald and fat? If you answered yes to any of these, this may have been Loch Ness.

That could be Deep Rising, the film about the giant mutant squid that attacks an ocean cruiser. The end is exactly the same as that, as is the whole 'guy doesn't have bullets to kill himself' thing. But, then again, that could be the ending for a dozen other friggin' horror movies.

For the topic, i'd have to nominate the movie 'Next' with Nicholas Cage, because that ending was a such a huge f'ing copout. And Nicholas Cage sucks. All his new crap is...well, crap.

It's one of them films where you think something good is going to happen but in this film, nothing good happens. The singer Pink was in it, i should have known it was going to be a bad movie.

Put pink in a movie, its like putting a bigger cat in a cat. (a homage to the 'what would you put in a cat' thread earlier this month.)

I liked alien resurection to go back to previous posts. Im having trouble remembering films with bad twists. Except for the Black Daliah for just trying to be LA confidential. And Chinatown. For M night shalamons films the twists can be good and bad. For the village its more of a ridiculosly funny twists. I'll think of some later.
