So being that it's the season of gift giving I am reminded off all the nice things I have been given throughout my life. And then I'm reminded of the not-so-good things I've received. Yes, one should be grateful of any gift received but let's face it, some gifts are crap.

I got my worst gift about 4 years ago. I had a girlfriend at the time and decided I was going to get her something special. She was a big LotR fan so I got her a first edition of The Fellowship of the Ring (was pricey but I got a deal because it lacked the jacket and wasn't in perfect shape). I also got her some perfume. When x-mas rolled around we exchanged our gifts and I remember how awesome it was to see her light up when she unwrapped TFofT. She was ecstatic. Then she gave me my gift.....WTF....? IT WAS A GODDAMN CHIA PET! Needless to say I was crushed that she spent so little time finding a gift for me considering how much of a pain in the ass it was to find that stupid book. Worst. Gift. Ever.

So, OT, what is you worst gift ever?

I got a floor length red fleece nightgown with lace ruffles round the bottom, arms and neck. AKA hideous, I wouldn't even hack it into a bath mat, it was that bad. Or, a box of scalloped potatoes. But I like those so that was okay, I guess.

A leather jacket, for christmas. I had told them for 9 straight months that I did not want aleather jacket, that they're a waste of time because I had my own jacket that was relatively new and I liked it. Plus, I don't like big, bulky leather jackets. I told them under no circumstances to get me one, and that if they got me one, to return it because I would not wear it. I got one for christmas, and I did not wear it. My parents prodded me and kept asking me to wear it, but nope. Didn't like it, told them I wouldn't, and I told my dad he could wear it if he liked. Same with my brother. It was large enough for my brother to fit in, who's relatively smallish, and it's rather unisex-ish, so he wears it around sometimes. it was less the fact that it was a leather jacket than it was them getting me something I had specifically requested them to not get me, repeatedly.

That sounds like the opposite of good. What self respecting person would attach lace to fleece? Gross :(

Me and my wife make it easy and buy each other one thing we asked for, and one thing that's a surprise.

I'd have to say, though, that the worst gifts used to come from my grand parents. ALWAYS clothes that I didn't like. Then when I became a teenager they got wise and gave me money. :P

Sears would. My grandma buys me things at sears. Helpful hint, never buy a girl/young woman anything modeled by somebody who's already gone through menopause. Seriously.

Yah, but that was when I was like 13. Showing your friends a kiddie DVD that you got from your relatives pretty much meant the death of your infant social life.

They still give me cash. Now it's getting bigger, though, because they're giving it for three.

Nah. I think it's in my closet at home somewhere, still in the plastic wrap. :P Maybe I should take it to gamestop and see if they'll buy it for 50 cents.

Make sure you unwrap it and open it, first. They don't accept games still in the wrap without a receipt. I found that out the hard way. Then I just went to another GameStop and unwrapped it before I went in. :)

I honestly don't know, perhaps a jean t-shirt with pockets...
I notice a lot of people seem really pissy about their gifts. Like it's all supposed to be held to a certain standard when giving something.
It's like someone is giving you something you don't like on purpose. They're trying to be nice. :/

Actually it was my birthday this year. My grandfather got me this biography of Christian IV (king of denmark from way back). I tried reading it on a train ride to Berlin, but it was just so damn boring.
