They were probably on their last legs anyway if they got banned for that. This happened on GameFAQs, not GameSpot, but I saw someone get banned because they quoted a message which contained the sig of a KoS'd user (KoS, or Kill on Sight, means a user is banned on sight for constant violations). An account of mine and one of my friend got suspended for similar reasons, though they were restored after an admin reviewed the suspensions.

haha that always sucks, I had one that was even on topic (girl wearing a snes with NES controllers to show that true gamers noticed the different systems instead of being amorized by the 1/2 naked chick).
the other bad reason to get suspended is posting in a spam topic (it's 7 days in system wars)
Yes, isn't that weird that we can't post those kinds of things but they have advertisements for Midway: battlestation with provocotive pin-ups? I already asked the mods about this and they said i need to contact suppor which i still have to do.

There are a total of nine mistakes involving spelling and punctuation in your reply and that's not even including the intentional misspelling of a word. I was suspended for 4 days once for mentioning the name of a rather popular SNES emulator. I thought that was pretty stupid considering I didn't even link to it's website or told anyone how to get it. Not to mention there is nothing illegal about emulators.

Look it's not that i choose to spell things wrong i am one of these who cannot spell to save their own life yes but i have a go at spelling i don't use silly bugers words like skool dawg because that is not you spell school and dog and use the letter r instead of are and u instead of you that buggs me so you can't say anything about my spelling at least i try to spell thing the right way instead of making up words. :x
Banned from GameFAQs for no apparent reason. No prior warnings, no prior moderator deleted posts. But one day I guess I offended someone with a post, I can't remember what exactly the post said, but it was not bad at all. I received no email, no notice, no nothing of why I was banned or even that I was banned at all.
I think that's the worst way to get banned, without warning or knowledge.

It's not stupid at all...read the TOU, we can't talk about emulators and the like I just checked it and it says nothing about emulator's specifically. Infact here's exactly what it says about "Illegal Activities":
Illegal activity - Communications that violate or incite others to violate the law are not allowed. This includes, but is not limited to, asking for or providing: illegal copies of copyrighted software; methods of circumventing copyright protection; illegal copies of copyrighted music, movies, videos, or any other type of media; reprints of material from other web sites; or methods of cheating in online games.GameSpot TOU
If I remember the post I got in trouble for correctly (its not in my moderation history anymore for some reason), basically someone was asking what an emulator was. I simply said that its was something used to play illegal copies of games on a computer, and then mentioned the name of an emulator. I don't see how simply mentioning its name violates what's in the TOU. It would be like suspending someone who used the word "porn" in their post.

I'm sure that it's allowed to talk about breaking the TOU, in context of explaining it to someone :| Also, as I said earlier, just by saying emulator you are breaching the TOU and seeing as the thread would be discussing things which are not supposed to be discussed the topic should be closed. I don't think points should be lost for discussing emulators, but if you get specific and name emulators then points should be lost as that's a more severe break of the TOU.
There usually aren't banning for actions but like what nuttybar said, too many moderations, and their last action put them over the top.

This forum kind of sucks, everthing is PC and you can't really talk about anything here. Everyone reports everyone else just to start trouble, but that's normal with kids. I think they are trying to get banned.

WinAmp wasn't made for illegal activity? It was one of the first free MP3 decoders, at a time when most MP3s were those of the illegal kind. Sure there were legal uses for it, but it was the use by IRC communities that traded illegal MP3s was how it first became popular.
