Tons of people ask for dating advice online, and whenever I read "just ask them out, what's the worst thing they can say? no?"

I'm reminded of a guy I know who got yelled at. He's kind of dickish anyway, so whatever.

So OT what's the worst possible way that you can get rejected?

Those guys who propose at major sporting events and have their proposal rejected. Like what do you even do after that? Kill yourself?

My solution: don't ask.

Like I've said before: just grab their hand, say something like "Let's go get some ice cream" and start walking.

FU GS, I haven't made 20 posts in the past 3 minutes. Lemme post.

It's gonna be one of those weekends on the forums, hunh?

If you propose at a sporting event, you're just setting yourself up for failure. What guy in their right mind does that?

Yeah she could have just said yes in the crowd and explain to him later that she would not marry him in private so the guy can at least have some dignity left. Kinda bitchy of her.

Yeah but I'm 37, have a full head of hair, not overweight, not rail-thin, not lazy, no kids, have my own house and car and I don't get drunk...put me up against 95% of the men around here and I probably look like fvcking Romeo.

:P

In all seriousness, I can pretty much tell if she's gonna be receptive or not when I'm talking to her before I pull that stunt. Call it experience...but there are times I back off because it's obvious she's not interested.

So basically, lie to him and leave him to explain to his friends and family why she changed her mind, after she said yes in public. THAT'S not humiliating to him? ! Like i said, smart thing to do--don't make it a public spectacle. Or if you ARE going to do something like that--pick a more romantic venue than halftime at a basketball game.

That is humiliating, but to deny him right there on the spot, as it's being televised, and have him walk out in shame while everyone is watching him is much, much worse. It's going to be humiliating no matter what, but explaining everything when it's just the two of you is much better.

It is humiliating, but I think that should just be simple common sense to not risk trying something like that. Part of me does kinda feels bad for him, but mostly I feel unbridled schadenfreude when that happens.

The woman probably got some backlash too... probably now named as "the bitch who said no". I would be surprised if she is married today after that. :P Actually, not really.

Yeah I have been getting to that point too, I guess the more women you put yourself around the better you get at talking to them.

Also the best advice I can give is be comfortable with yourself and they will feel comfortable with you.

Also, if I'm going to ask a girl out it's going to be the first time or two I see her after first meeting her. That way I don't build up a sugar-coated image of her and spend days, weeks or whatever wondering only to be shot down.

If it's going to happen, make it happen quick while there's still an air of mystery about both of you. If you get shot down, hey you only met the girl twice, she's probably a bitch anyway. ;)

Ugh, that is cringeworthy. Not very nice for the guy to put her on the spot like that either.

I think if I ever find someone I like enough to marry, I won't ever formally propose.  I'll just wait for her to bring up the topic of marriage and then I'll ask, "do you want to get married?" And if she says yes I will consider that to be a mutually binding contract.

Actually you don't need to be around girls a lot to know.  It's pretty obvious when they are or are not interested.  At least to me, and I'm not a womanizer or anything.

a girl i met at a party was making out with me and we hung out the whole time. towards the end of the night i asked her if she wanted to hang out again sometime and she said " i like you a lot. your hot and funny(insert more compliments)....but you look too much like my brother" that was one of the most awkward responses i have ever heard of.

another story wasnt an immediate rejection because i had been on four dates with the girl already but a rejection none the less. i drove an hour to this girls house and i was waiting in my car for her to get ready(strict parents so i was not allowed in the house). she text me she would be out in 10 minutes. she did this everytime i would text her to see if she was ok, eventually an hour passed. she came out and said "ok 15 more minutes". another hour passed. than she said she would meet me at my place. took me two hours to get back home because it was five o clock traffic and she never text me back, ever....i only waitied because she was a mega hot girl :P. and ever since that experience i have been super picky with girls.

Rejections that happen in public are certainly the worst kind.

Luckily, I have never had a bad rejection. :)

If you are kind and genuine and clever it is unlikely that she will be a bitch about it... You just need to keep asking girls out that you actually like... it will become easier and rejection won't feel as bad. I've been rejected numerous times.
