So far, I've had to read Beowulf, the Puppet Master, Deathwatch, the Giver, and Of Mice and Men.

The worst is probably Of Mice and Men, but I can't be too sure because we're not all that far into it. It doesn't seem all that great, though.

What's the worst book you were required to read?

I liked Of Mice and Men, my teacher read it out loud once, and had a really funny voice for lennie.

but i would say The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Suceed, even my teacher admitted the book was boring and could have been half as long.

Over the past two years of my English degree over probably about 60% of what I've read is not only stuff I've disliked but absolutely hated. Under no circumstances, ever, approach anything by Gertrude Stein, it stands out as one of the most horrible things I've ever had to waste my life staring at.

Ditto. I had to read it last year. I was excited to read it at first, because it was one of the "classics." I wouldn't say it was the worst books I had to read, but it certainly wasn't the best.

Beowulf was boring, but it wasn't a summe reading deal. The worst is probably Wuthering Heights. The dialect is old. The plot is slow. The plot is also confusing.

Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. He's not a bad writer, but that book sure wasn't the best introduction to his works.

Worst: Tom Brokaw's The Greatest Generation

Best: Secret Life Of The Bees, To Kill A Mockingbird, True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle.

Those are all low-level books, though.

You'd think the violence and peril throughout the book would at least have you use some adjective other than boring to describe it.

It was a caustic political allegory. How was it dumb? If anything it was ingenious in how thoroughly parallel it is to the rise of the USSR.

I didn't enjoy the Scarlet Pimpernel because it was basically another rip-off of Wealthy and Rapacious men and women with a unique twist. However, I thoroughly enjoyed Of Mice and Men, Animal Farm, and some others mentioned here. But I first read those about 15 years ago.

Actually the worst book ever written which I had to read was A Seperate Peace... That book has not aged well. It's considered a classic but it's incredibly irritating.

P.S. Great Gatsby and Catcher and the Rye pwn.
