99.99% of the world disagrees with you. American entertainment is one of the U.S.' largest exports. Say what you want, but the world can't get enough of American television and film.

Jersey Shore is an obvious choice, but a ton of TLC's stuff is up there too. 'The Learning Channel,' my ass. Toddlers and Tiaras, 16 and Pregnant, I Didn't Know I was Pregnant, the various "I popped multiples out of my vagina so I have a show!" shows, take your pick. All garbage.

By watching the show you give money to their corporate sponsors which fuel more of the same awful crap.

If you don't feed the troll, it won't get worse.

People complain about how TV has miraculously devolved into garbage over the span of a night. No, it took years of money and effort to get what you see on TV today. If you don't like it, shut off your TV and don't watch it. The internet is better anyway and most of the shows that ARE worth watching you can stream from either their corporate site or from hulu or some other site.

In essence, it always amuses me when people complain about TV then hop online to complain about how bad it is. Just shut it off. Cancel your subscription to whatever TV provider you have. Use that money to get premium content from Netflix or something. It'll be a better investment, and you won't have to wade through garbage to find things you like.

That's a correct statement, but even without a Nielsen box, advertisers only have to watch buying trends to know whether or not their ads had an impact. If you see a Coca-cola ad on a Saturday night with 5 people, and you and the other 4 people go out to buy a 12-pack of Coke on the Sunday following the ad, they can determine whether or not they're getting people to buy their product based on advertisement or on chance alone. There is a necessary market that buys Coke products on a whim, but they acquire the majority of their money from products that are bought by people who are already loyal to it, and the new adopters that pick it up due to an ad or word of mouth.

Pretty much any reality show. However, ones like Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs and Pawn Stars are really good. I mean ones that get caught up in drama BS like Jersey Shore.

I wish this was an option in Canada. The only real alternative is to subscribe to shows I like on iTunes. They do show up on Global/CBC/etc's Canadian site for viewing for a couple of weeks, but the quality is terrible and only the most popular shows appear there anyway. For $30-$50 I can get a season's subscription to a show, which on the bottom end is half of what I pay for cable a month, and I get to keep the shows. It also eats bandwidth like crazy, as if you subscribe to five shows that's 10GB of data a week just on TV shows, and it quickly eats into hard drive space once you start backing up files (I guess there's a reason I have 6.5TB of space on my computer). Netflix has a terrible television selection in Canada (other than British shows) and Hulu can only be accessed if you fiddle around with proxies, which is more of a pain than it's worth.

its not a strawman all of the other shows i named make white people look retarded and you pick the one show, a comedy, with a cast of black people and call it racist, and yes that is what you meant by a minstrel show.
