Would a rabbit be a nice pet to have? What about a turtle or tortoise?

Anyone here ever had a turtle for a pet? Has anyone ever told you that they're unclean/not sanitary animals or have superstitions concerning said animals?

I've also heard that rabbits tend to breed a lot... Who here likes these kinds of pets? They're not as common as dogs or cats or goldfish... maybe.

It's true that reptiles and some lizards carry salmonella, but as long as you wash your hands after handling them, you should be fine.

Rabbits CAN be good pets, but they are a little more work that say, a cat, in that they aren't trained to use the litter box.

The one thing that I'd ask, is that PLEASE BE SURE YOU ARE ABLE TO COMMIT TO THE PET FOR THE LONG HAUL. Regardless of the pet you get, there will be work and money involved (for veterinary care, not just food and toys).

Is there any reason in particular you don't want a "traditional" pet like a cat or dog?

Turtles are cool. They can actually run pretty fast depending on which kind you get. They also look badass when they eat.

I've had both. If you get rabbit fixed no problem. Now Turtles are ok but there not really very fun or anything, and as far as the mess goes It didn't seem particularly bad. Both pets are alright, but their just not really exiting.

Turtles smell and you gotta wash your hands after touching them. lol I'd get something more traditional, like a beaver.

My girlfriend says she loves her rabbit. The weirdest thing, though: there's no hutch or anything over at her place. :?

Of course thats always another option, but if you dont keep them ocupied they are known to visously attack there owners. There were 11 deaths last year...

You also need to buy equipmet such as a sabre, a scorer, and body wire, all in minature....

And they require next to constant training, or else they will have bad form and lunge distance.

Ya. And then a week after there was another killing... Got so bad they had to pass laws forbiding the licensing and selling of Fenceing Hamsters without a permit. Can only get them in some specialty stores now, cost a fortune. But i know where to get them, and cheap too...

What ya do, is you hop on a flight out to anaheim...

Then make your way to S. Harbor Bouelevard. Theres a theme park across the street, Its called "Disneyland'. Buy tickets, and enter the main park. On Main street, there should be a guy with a red and blue hat standing under the door frame to the fake dentists building... Tell him your looking for Jim, and that Fun sent ya. He'll take you to the guy you want to see...

This is going to be great! In a few short, easy, and non-time consuming steps, I'll have my very own fencing hamster. My friends won't be able to give me guff any more about not having anything going for me, I'll just show them my fencing hamster, and they'll be more jealous then ever. Thanks man! I'm going to go buy one right now!

My cousins have rabbits and they crap A LOT!!! I am not joking but they sure are the nicest animals and are very cuddly except for the ones that aren't social, they tend to not be the best. As for turtles, they sure as heck will outlive any other household pets, my neighbor has three turtles and a baby turtle on the way and each individual turtle's lifetime is like 100 years!!! At least that is what they said but they can't be trusted a lot of the time. Rabbits=okayish pets. Turtles=long living pets. You decide.

Turtles are fairly boring pets, and male rabbits just hump anything and everything and females...well they are like hamsters or lizards, or any other pet takes a lot of maintenance but you get no value out of them besides watching them eat, poop or walk around.

Value? For what, their skin or something? You mean like sheep shearing to sell wool and such? Or taking a turtle's shell or something? That's a bit unconventional...

Get a big dog. When I was a teenager I used to tell my sister I was going to eat her rabbits. One night, we had chicken, so I hid the rabbit and told her the chicken was her Flopsy. She freaked

I prefer cats to be honest, but if I had to choose between turtle or rabbit I'd go with the rabbit. And yes I have heard that rabbits are dirty, but then again I have had experience with turtles being smelly animals and I wouldn't really want to condemn an animal to basically spend their entire life in a box. At least with the rabbit I would have an urge to let it out and play with it now and again.

My friend's brother got a tiny tortoise for a pet when he was four, and he's now 25ish and it's still not dead. They are around for a long, long time, so be prepared. Rabbits can be kept alone as housepets and can be trained like cats or dogs.

I had a rabbit for about 11 years, until it had to be put down after its kidneys failed. Completely caught my parents off guard as it was only supposed to live for 4.
