Even though it's very implausible and there's a million loopholes, let's just say by some miraculous event, the world decided to get rid of money, and everyone just worked to serve others and in exchange got everything for free. There would be no classes because everyone would have what they want. They want a small house, they'll live in a small house, they want a big house, they'll live in a big house, they want the newest car, it's theirs. Would the world be better off? Again, put aside all the flaws in this system, and just say that it worked.

If a system had no flaws of course it would be better than a system with flaws. I don't really see how you can argue against that...

I dont think it would ever work. It would be chaos. For example, why would people work for a power company to provide power for people if they didnt get paid in return

Sounds like perfect communism to me, but of course it'll never work because some people will be greedy and want more than others.

Nobody would be willing to make any new cars or new houses, so the system would fail.

Because since they work, they get everything for free, so they wouldn't need money.

I agree, but I'll still continue to live in my happy little hippie world. John Lennon lives across the street from me...

But if they get everything for free, why would they even work in the first place? The world would just fall apart.

exactly..the morale would turn to "why am I doing deeds for this guy when he doesnt have to do anything?"

Bollocks than no one would work just because they didn't get paid.

Appart from that I'd have to say money isn't the problem. The world would be a better place without greed. ;)

It might work, but if anyone could have what they want, they'll want the best available... and the best usually requires more man power to produce...

Well in the Star Trek Universe money has been abolished. But there's still other forms of valuable goods that people use in place of money. I can see if money was abolished people would just start trading around other goods in place of it.

art? do you consider musical instruments material posessions? paint? paper? camera's? games? allot of art is either made by, or is a material possesion. and Peace? as long as there are Humans, do you really think there will be peace?

Currency, no. Greed, yes. Too bad only the former has the possibility of being eliminated.

It is just big business that needs to go. They are the ones sucking the economy dry.

The need ratio would be much higher than the achieving ratio, leading to complete chaos.

Yes it would be a better place, but capitalism without flaws would also be a better world

And people here need to realize that we're assuming the implementation went perfectly, so stop arguing that we'll never get it to work.

People would just go back to using some precious metal as a standard probably, which incidentally is what U.S. currency used to be based on, so it really doesn't matter. People will always find some standard thing by which to value everything else, because bartering is otherwise just a pain in the ass.

I have read somewhere the suggestion that all of the problems of human social classes started with farming and irrigation since that is ostensibly when people stopped being hunters and gatherers and thereby stopped being "equals."

Kind of an odd view, but I suppose it is not entirely without merit.

No, because as others have said, there has to be a base value for anything, sticks, pieces of paper, it doesn't matter. Besides, people will just get fed up with it and just murder eachother out of jealousy.
