I'm a little surprised that anyone would be "shocked" by this.
For starters, as others have said there is a certain level of comfort that some people have with members of the same sex. In addition, depending on what the patient is being treated for, I think the physician's sex could make a HUGE difference. For example, if I was having a problem or had a concern with some "private parts," and I were trying to describe a feeling/sensation/pain, isn't it plausible that a person of the same sex who HAS THE SAME PHYSIOLOGY just might have a better understanding of what I'm describing?
Also, you had mentioned that "we are all proffessional"........ I'd like to think that is true, but just saying that doesn't make it true.
Finally (for now), you seem to equate a woman wearing a bikini on the beach with being alone, in close quarters, with a relative stranger. I don't even know where to begin to explain the difference there.
One last obervation I have, and this is ONLY my OPINION, but it seems you already view "patients" as cattle (for lack of a better word). I should hope for your sake, and that of your patients, that your bedside manner's improves over time. (I want to reiterate....JUST MY OPINION).
