why is this even a question? it would be idiotic in the least to choose immunity to less dangerous conditions in face of life threatening ones
But is cancer or aids something you really see yourself having to deal with later on? Given the life I live, it would be more beneficial to get rid of all the small things so that I could always be healthy.why is this even a question? it would be idiotic in the least to choose immunity to less dangerous conditions in face of life threatening ones

Which would you rather have 100% immunity to: Small things like the common cold or a cough OR immunity bigger things like cancer, aids, etc? I'd choose to be immune to smaller illnesses because I don't see the bigger ones as a threat.ZumaJones07
yeah i know its not like they can kill you or anythng... /sarcasm

You do know that 1 in 3 people get cancer right?

they can't kill me if they never get to me. I sidestep big diseases. :)[QUOTE="noxboxlive"]I'm part of the 2/3 that don't?You do know that 1 in 3 people get cancer right?

well them im one fo the 1/100000000000000000000000000000000000000
that can never die...

they can't kill me if they never get to me. I sidestep big diseases. :)I thought the same thing .You dont fear the cancer as much as you do catching a cold while having cancer and that cold in a day turns into nemonia (cant spell it) then you cant catch your breath or even breath and that causes your heart to stop and your dead before the cancer even had a chance.

cute, except you don't. there are tonnes of diseases in which the environment or the life you live bears little to no impact, like genetic diseases. no matter how healthy you are, there's always the chance you'll have an incurable disease that will cripple you or even kill you. not to mention the amount of people that get lung cancer, for example, that have never smoked a day in their life.
there's no logic in your reasoning

The vast majority of cancers start off as a single cell. Would you rather get rid of it at that level or wait for it to become something major and then get rid of it?
Small. Unless you live in a plutonium house then cancer tends to start very small and a lot of the big ones have good vaccines against them already. Also this doesn't cover injuries so it's not like the major option lowers your chances of dying young by much.markop2003This is similar to my method of thought.
There is some logic, I think given my family's history and my life choices, I am less prone to getting those big diseases. I know it's naive, but I honestly don't think I'll be dealing with any of those big illnesses.there's no logic in your reasoning

Big, obviously. Lifetime risk of dying from cancer alone is about 1 in 4.kamikaze_pigmyWhich may only protect you from being run over and killed by a bus the next day. This doesn't make you invulnerable.

Big ones, then I would run around (maybe naked;)) in Red Forest laughing at radiation

I think it means your also immune to most STDs too....
Just putting that out there.
It wouldn't protect you from warts, gonorrhea, scabies ect, also it wouldn't stop you from infecting other people.Voted small diseases. Chances of getting cancer? 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000001%
chances of getting a nasty cold? 42%
Yeah, I'll take my odds.
But then agian this poll could be a trick question. If I'm 100% immune to cancer, does that mean I can smoke 30 cigars everyday????
Just because I cannot let medical ignorance go without justice, here are the chances of developing cancer.
Males 44% Females 37%
The chances of dying from cancer are of course lower, but who would rather live with cancer than the occasional bronchitis, athlete's foot, etc.
That's not even taking into account, CANCER ISN'T THE ONLY THING THAT WILL KILL YOU!
Cancer isn't even the leading cause of death worldwide, cardiovascular disease is. More people die from cardiovascular disease than cancer!
This isn't even taking into account AIDS, Diabetes, Alzheimer's, lung diseases, etc etc.

The smaller illnesses are things you can get over at least. Big ones can be permanent and life ending. So common sense tells me to choose the big diseases....tocool340Indeed. In my above post, i just didn't wanna get moderated... anyone choosing the small ones must not have common sense. (hoping not to get modded)
Indeed. In my above post, i just didn't wanna get moderated... anyone choosing the small ones must not have common sense. (hoping not to get modded)sethman410Given that these "big diseases" seem to cause the most deaths, we would probably be safe in saying that without them our lives would be extended significantly. Except that doesn't stop the general aging process from occurring. Nor does it stop blood clots from forming and causing a heart attack. Nor weak joints, muscles, bones, etc. So you would be getting older and progressively weaker for who knows how long. I'm sorry if I don't want to some day become a liability for everyone else around me.

Though perhaps it's better to say people are ignorant, rather than not having common sense. I run into a lot of people that believe cancer is the leading cause of death, so perhaps that knowledge isn't so common. The politically correct way would probably be, people have to be ignorant of the variety of life threatening illnesses and the chances of acquiring one if they would honestly take their chances and gamble their life in such a way.
I've had cancer and it's not so bad, I feel almost invincible now - not to say same thing can't happen to me again. It's just that I've had many colds in my life, and I'm getting really tired of it, nothing ruins my day/week more than a cold, so I would choose that.
If a big disease were to kill me then I'd have no problems with that, I'd hopefully have lived long enough and enjoyed some years coldless.
So if I'm reading this correctly, it's stating that the chance of me developing ANY type of cancer is 44% (1 in 2 for men)? And the other stuff below that is for individual cases? Those numbers don't look to bad to me lol.The worst one seems to be 1 in 6 for prostate cancer with a 2.79% chance of dying from it. I'm not worried about all that. :)Males 44% Females 37%

I believe osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease qualify as large illnesses.
The reason you would be a liability is because of those large illnesses. People can age just fine without these hampering illnesses and do not require assistance, especially on their entire family.
You would rather die younger, than running the chance of living in a retirement home? Even though some people are in their 90s and still living on their own..

Cant tell if you're kidding or not. But if you have a sibling, chances are one of you will develop cancer at some point in your lives. You don't think that's a significantly high rate?
P.S. A day of living in L.A. is the equivolent of smoking 14 cigarettes to the damage it does to your lungs/body, just by breathing the air, according to my professor. So living in any populated area will probably increase your risks for cancer and other diseases.

-___-
So you have almost a 50% chance of acquiring the SECOND leading cause of death, and that's okay..
How often do you get these small illnesses? A week long cold every once in a while is really good enough reason to take a chance of ending your life several years early?
