Here's something that we should all celebrate. Why don't they have a day to commorate the real king of rock's birthday? Thing about it, what is it that Elvis had going for him? John Lennon, he did Imagine, the Beatles, and Elvis did cover songs and he didn't write any of his stuff, maybe a few, but were any of them as big as John's? Just saying, John should be the new king of rock.

John was inspired by Elvis. If not for Elvis, Lennon probably wouldn't have even gotten into rock music. Although I prefer Lennon and the Beatles, Elvis is the only true king of rock.

Good gourd, no. Duke of Pop would be more appropriate.

Why is it Elvis is? I can totally agree with Chuck Berry. And could anyone beat any of these people today?

Cause he had image.. The dancing, just all the stuff he did that transended his actual music. While Chuck Berry was definately like one of the inventors of rock.. he wasnt a "rock star" like elvis was if you know what I mean

Birthday is tomorrow.

I call him the King of Rock, sure I know the REAL title belongs to Elvis as he stole rock n roll from Chuck Berry. But Lennon and The Beatles took it to a whole different level.

And no one in mainstream is even worthy of being called "rock" in general. So no.

King of the 60s, maybe, but NOT the King of Rock. King of Rock is a title that has only ever belonged to Elvis.

So, whenever you use the phrase "king of rock" in conversation, everybody assumes you're talking about Elvis. Then you have to clarify. Then you have to spend at least twenty minutes explaining and defending your position. By that time, the sun has gone down and it's time for everybody to go home.

No x100. I mean, first off, he really didn't do that much rock. He played a lot of different genres but it was mostly just pop songs. He's far from the world's greatest guitarist, and he never really "rocked out". John always performed very calmly, and he pretty much always played the music the way it is on the album. Kings of Rock are people like Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Duane Allman and Pete Townshend.

Sure you can say that now but only because freakin every artist over the past 40 years has tried emulating him and the beatles in every way.
