major letdown i liked hybrid theory alot and meteora was pretty good to but...minutes to midnight wow only what ive done and wake(which is more of an instrumental intro) were even worth listening to. Man major bummer alot of their songs sound like other pop artists out there i guess linkin park lost their linkinparkness.

oh well i guess ill just check out the new megadeth album.

I disagree.

Half the cd was gold while the rest is "meh".

Rick Rubin made them change their style. I don't think this is their best album either, but there's only 1 song that I wouldn't bother listening to repeatedly (Hands Held High). Other than that, all their other songs are good, just because most of the CD is slow meaningful songs, doesn't mean it's bad, they tried something new and if you pay attention to the words, it's damn good. I just wish it wasn't politically inspired. No More Sorrow could've been better if they weren't talking about the government, Hands Held High is just annoying because it is outright political. Then there's The Little Things Give You Away; Great song, would've been better if it wasn't talking about Hurricane Katrina.

This is kinda like what happened when the new System of a Down CD came out awhile ago. It was a politically driven album and even I was turned off by it until i just forced myself to listen and forgot about the political side of it.

haven't got it yet, I'll get it soon. I hear the Mike Shinoda doesn't do too much rapping on this album though.

I like it, it's a new Linkin Park. Most of the songs are soft, I have no problem with that. I just wish there are more songs like papercut and crawling from their previous albums.

TheManOfChoice

The decision to change style was mutual actually. They sought out Rubin because they wanted to change style.

And I must disagree about the political lyrics. I liked the lyrics much more this time around because of the political message. Maybe it is just because I share the same beliefs, but I loved it regardless.

BTW Hands Held High is one of the best songs on the cd IMO. I like both songs with Mike rapping in them (The other being Bleed It Out).

Yeah, I agree with everything you just said. Bleed it Out is a badass song, too.

In the making of segment, they pretty much justified their entire reason for the new sound.  That being that theyd done pretty much everything Nu Metal had to offer.  Also, Rick nor the label made them change, they did it becasue they wanted to.  Its not as good as Hybrid Theory, but its still kick-ass.

True they sought him out, sorry I forgot about that tidbit of info. I also share the same beliefs as them in the lyrics, but I'll be damned if I want to hear about it in a song that could be filled with lyrics about experiences or emotions like their past albums. Personally, I always skip Hands Held High just because of what I said, I don't want politics in music even if I agree with it. I want lyrics I can relate to with my life and my experiences, not with stuff I've seen and heard about on the news. Bleed it out is a great song I agree, but the best song on the album with Mike in it has to be In Between.

i dont have a problem with soft music its just the way that linkin park does it kinda as much as i hate to say this doesnt sound good in my opinion. I mean even the softer stuff on their other albums was much harder than this it just doesnt suit them well. Too bad, i thought hybrid theory was a flawless album i would listen to it over and over again(just like before) im glad i didnt preorder it and waited to hear it over my freinds house lol. But if some of you guys like it i guess thats your opinion.

Ah, I hate In Between. It is one of 2 songs on the album that I think they should have scrapped. It would have been good if it had actually built up to SOMETHING, but it never actually peaks. It annoys the hell out of me when songs build up but never climax...

As for politics in music, I like it as long as it isn't overdone. Another great song that came out recently is "Clenching the Fists of Dissent" by Machine Head and it has to be one of the most politically charged songs ever.

It is ok, I only like a couple songs (No More Sorrow, Bleed It Out, Given Up and Valentines Day) the rest are kinda blah or mediocer.
