[QUOTE="LostProphetFLCL"][QUOTE="TheManOfChoice"]Rick Rubin made them change their style. I don't think this is their best album either, but there's only 1 song that I wouldn't bother listening to repeatedly (Hands Held High). Other than that, all their other songs are good, just because most of the CD is slow meaningful songs, doesn't mean it's bad, they tried something new and if you pay attention to the words, it's damn good. I just wish it wasn't politically inspired. No More Sorrow could've been better if they weren't talking about the government, Hands Held High is just annoying because it is outright political. Then there's The Little Things Give You Away; Great song, would've been better if it wasn't talking about Hurricane Katrina. This is kinda like what happened when the new System of a Down CD came out awhile ago. It was a politically driven album and even I was turned off by it until i just forced myself to listen and forgot about the political side of it.

The decision to change style was mutual actually. They sought out Rubin because they wanted to change style.
And I must disagree about the political lyrics. I liked the lyrics much more this time around because of the political message. Maybe it is just because I share the same beliefs, but I loved it regardless.
BTW Hands Held High is one of the best songs on the cd IMO. I like both songs with Mike rapping in them (The other being Bleed It Out).
True they sought him out, sorry I forgot about that tidbit of info. I also share the same beliefs as them in the lyrics, but I'll be damned if I want to hear about it in a song that could be filled with lyrics about experiences or emotions like their past albums. Personally, I always skip Hands Held High just because of what I said, I don't want politics in music even if I agree with it. I want lyrics I can relate to with my life and my experiences, not with stuff I've seen and heard about on the news. Bleed it out is a great song I agree, but the best song on the album with Mike in it has to be In Between.
Ah, I hate In Between. It is one of 2 songs on the album that I think they should have scrapped. It would have been good if it had actually built up to SOMETHING, but it never actually peaks. It annoys the hell out of me when songs build up but never climax...
As for politics in music, I like it as long as it isn't overdone. Another great song that came out recently is "Clenching the Fists of Dissent" by Machine Head and it has to be one of the most politically charged songs ever.Â
