I was the exact same way in French class. I couldn't absorb any of the material, and to this day, can barely even string a sentence together.

Pardon my logic, but a bird made of cheese is something you usually only see when you drink too much alcohol...

Not much use for french anymore.  The french have even developed language police because foreign words keep creeping into their lexicon.  Go for chinese or something potentially useful.

The GCSE oral is pretty easy. I think languages are taught really badly at school though, if you are learning through rote repetition you are doing something wrong, languages don't work like that. I don't remember any French after doing it for 5 years and learnt more of Japanese in a month than ever did of French. Vocab cramming and only minor allusions to grammar (without much practice either) doesn't work. Suppose it's what you get for teaching in groups of 30.

Indeed, that's what I always wanted to tell my teachers, but of course, students are dumb in their eyes and they knew best... I had to learn to type with 10 fingers because they wanted it, and I never learned it. Until I wanted to do it myself a couple of years later on. Same thing with French: I didn't remember 2 sentences in French at school, but got interested in learning it after I graduated and I was far more motivated to learn it then I ever did in school. Forcing and cramming never works. The more time for cramming and forced learning equals the less amount of time to forget all about it again.

When starting out in French I had some great teachers that didn't force things, but made it pretty enterataining. I never stuck with it though, but hey. Reading some of these posts made my day, considering I'm about to go to Sociology exam...

the main thing to remember when speaking french is to articulate. we english-speakers talk from our throats and we hardly move our lips. proof for this is to ask a french man to speak while keeping his teeth together; he won't be able to do it. us english people can talk as loudly as we like with our teeth together due to our throat doing all the work and not the lips.

other that that; restes calme, ne parles pas trop vite, et au pire des cas, dites-leur en anglais d'aller se faire foutre, que notre langue maternelle soit la meilleure du monds et que, si ca leur plait pas, que ca te regardes pas et que tu les enmerdes! ;)

bonne chance an su...

J'espère que tu y réussis! Mais, il faut qu'on étudie avant qu'on ne passe un examen comme ça. étudie, étudie! T'es à quel niveau en français? Je suis à niveau deux(je suis américain).

LOL, I don't think his teacher would appreciate that.
