You know what's amazing? I've never even heard of Ground Zero before all this.

Like, absolutely not. I've heard of the Empire State Building, the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, but Ground Zero?

Well I never was much for those Green Zone and Red Zone and other army speak. But still, it's amazing what taking stuff out of proportion to make ratings does to situations like these. One of the downsides of Capitalism in America, the idiots who give the news their ratings and make a pandemic out of everything.

Heh it's funny because over there on GameFAQs they were all like "what are you an idiot" or "hey hermit under a rock, did you know Hitler was in Germany" and stuff like that.

The term was never used much when I was around... though obviously it doesn't mean that people weren't using it all the time.

I don't understand.

Do you mean you hadn't heard of ground zero the description, or ground zero the place in NY where the towers stood?

I only ask because Ground Zero is a comman name given to the epicenter of any event. usually used in missile or explosive testing, ground zero is the point of detonation.

The place where the towers fell was named Ground Zero for this very reason, but it has since just become the commanly used name for it.

For me, it's ground zero being applied to the Twin tower thing. Of course I'd heard the term before.

Don't feel bad. Ground Zero is pretty obscure, and only hardcore shooter fans would know about it off the top of their heads.

Some people might find this humorous. It's a list of some of the various ways the COMMUNITY CENTER in question has been described. My personal favorite? ""on the ash-strewn site of 3,000 dead Americans"

Isn't ground zero just the name for the specific surface area in which a large-scale attack has taken place?

I think the 9/11 ground zero has become the official "Ground Zero" - as in, that's just the official name of the area now.

That was pretty much the "code name" for the site of the terrorist attacks at the world trade center, although I think alot of people on Gamespot OT might be too young to remember that happening now.
