Cause in my opinion thats the only way for us to stop fighthing each other. IMO any of these wars and conflicts would stop making any sense. Cause maybe we should look at each others in other way, we would look at earth as our home, and that the only one we have. And we all live in this home, so that maybe makes all of us a family.
I think it would be a good start, but its ironic that it would be war to end war. But at least fighting aliens is way more badass.

An alien attack wouldn't do squat. Consider an extreme "ID4" scenario in which aliens totally ruin our **** before we finally defeat them. Imagine that the world did actually come together as one. The problem is that that only last as long as the aliens are vaporizing us and blowing up our cities.
Think about it, dude. We're talking about uniting everyone by having a REALLY bad enemy that takes up everone's attention. We're talking about everyone on earth being allowed to indulge in their violent tendencies, as long as those tendencies are directed against aliens. The problem is that that doesn't get rid of the violent tendencies. It's merely directing that violence and hatred at a globally accepted target.
Now...what happens when we win? What happens when the aliens go away? Do you think that all these people who have spent the last 5 years in the Alien Wars learning to ENJOY killing are going to suddenly start hugging trees and picking flowers? Do you think that the huge number of weapons being circulated worldwide to help humanity fight the aliens aren't going to end up in the hands of people who really don't give a **** about ANYONE? Look at it this way. Pretend you're part of a violent gang. The aliens attack. You pledge allegiance to hunanity in order to fight the aliens. Humanity has now beaten the aliens. But you still have your guns. Are you going to suddewnly be all about peace? Or will you say to yourself, "wow. I'm glad those aliens are gone. But...WOW. I have a ****load of guns. I think these guns may come in handy."
You're talking about a potentially huge power vaccuum. Nations and governments being annihilated. Don't you think that some of the people (who have been heavily armed in order to fight the aliens) might want to KEEP their guns as a way of strengthing their attempts to fill the power vaccuums that will be left after an alien invasion? Suppose that people ignore their differences in order to fight a common threat. What makes you think that those EXACT same differences won't return as soon as the aliens get defeated?
