How do you react to it during surgery? I had to go under it last year, and I slept through the whole surgery. Have any of you been under it? How did it effect you?

I've never been under it except when I was about 2 or 3 so I have no recollection of what it was like. I've only ever had local when I had a filling. Nom Nom Nom.
went under for a 4x wisdom tooth extraction earlier this year. I remember feeling really high for a couple seconds (before I fell asleep) and then I woke up. no memory of anything after the first 2-3 breaths of gas.
I slept through the entire surgery, although it was definitely weird-- when they put you to sleep, it seems like you wake up a second later and the surgery's over. I do well with anesthesia. When I started to wake up, I was like 3/4 asleep. Then I went back to sleep, and woke up again. I was groggy for awhile, then I became fully awake.
I can just imagine.I didn't "react" to it, really. The anaesthetist came in, stuck a needle in my arm, had me count down from 10, I remember hitting 9 and then the next thing I knew the surgery was over. The intervening time was a complete blank.

Ok, sir I need you to count down to ten after I inject you with a needle.
Yah right, do it.
Ok...ok count down.
Yah, OK! Ten...Nine..
The operation is done.
What?
Yah its done.
Oh, ok. Never doubted you for a second
I was out. I had 3 marjor surgeries, so those were all IVd (at least, one was, I know that for sure) all my other minor surgeries (11-13 of them) were all inhaled; it smells very close to paint or permanent marker, and other stuff like it. My last major surgery, all I remeber was everything going black. Then I woke gagging on a breathing tube. How do you react to it during surgery? I've been under three times. Last time I came to, I was in the middle of confessing something personal to a nurse. What's worrying is that I don't remember how the conversation started or what else I'd said.
oooo. I bet you were embarrased. Oh yeah, when I come out of it, I thrash violently.I've been under three times. Last time I came to, I was in the middle of confessing something personal to a nurse. What's worrying is that I don't remember how the conversation started or what else I'd said.

oooo. I bet you were embarrased. Looking back on it, I should have done, but at the time I felt so carefree and positive about everything that it didn't bother me at all. I wonder if truth serums are always that much fun... Probably even more fun for the hospital staff lol.[QUOTE="jimmyjammer69"]

i've had it twice, once many years ago when i got a tooth pulled, and once when i got my wisdom teeth pulled. slept through it fine both times. i don't remember the first time, but after waking up from getting my wisdom teeth pulled, i was still ****ed up, i was like david after dentist :P
apparantly i am a really funny person whenever i get put under. like i do the count down from 10 thing and once i get to 7 i start laughing hysterically untill i pass out (i have no memory of laughing or anything. to me the anesthesia feels like it takes effect after i reach 8-9).
then when i wake up i usually have a big headache and theres always a really weird smell. like burnt rubber or something. i cant describe it
They put me under when I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth out at the same time.
I remember waking up in the middle of surgery, hearing a lot of crunching and scraping sounds, and seeing everything just covered in blood in the reflection off the doctor's safety glasses.
Weird experience.
Under twice--both times to get teeth removed.
Apparently my eyes popped open about 3 seconds after I was asleep and they stared disconcertingly at the doctors...so they had to actually tape my eyes shut for the surgery. The rest went pretty good.
I feel like a druggy for saying this but it was awesome. And no i never done drugs or anything before. I just remember i was in on room, they gave me an ivy in my hand. then i went to another prep room before i went in. Talked to my parents, then they took me to the operation room. I remember seeing 2 nurses and an indian talking guy. The nurses rested my arm on a ledge and told me i was what was gonna happen. As i layed back the indian dr guy said relax and count back from ten and think of happy thoughts. I got to 8 or 7 and next thing i know im waking up in the recovery room. It was so weeeird! All for a 15 min ear surgery

"Okay you're going to start feeling sleepy"
*wakes up*
That's pretty much it... you don't feel, hear, dream, or notice any time pass by, it's instantaneous.
It was a very weird experience for me (although this is the common effect of anesthesia).
As soon as they gave me the injection i was quite high. and the nurses were all around me. and one of them said "damn i just broke a nail", to which i replied "MAN UP!!! im about to have my face broken!" (this was for nose surgery repairing a severely deviated septum). next thing i knew. i was waking up. and just kept asking for my girl friend. i kept asking the nurse to go get her. just go get her. so the nurse went out to the waiting room to get her. but she wasnt there. thats because i was in texas. and she was in pennsylvania. but i refused to accept it. just kept asking for her.
for my wisdom teeth surgery i just remember waking up. and it was a constant stream of obscenities and blood for the next 5 hrs. i was pretty angry at everyone and everything.
I hate it. I always have weird dreams and when I wake up I always freak out because I have no clue where I am and everything is so blurry that I can't make out anything. Last time nurses had to hold me down when I woke up.
I've had to have a few surgery's and I was fine with the Anesthesia. I slept through it all, which I'm glad cause I sure wouldn't want to wake up in the middle of it!!
i've had both intravenous and inhaled. don't remember the inhaled too much since it was in 2nd grade, other than it smelled funny. the intravenous was really weird because i remember feeling the back of my neck get really warm and then i was out. i remember be very groggy too when they started waking me back up
I've only been under once. It was when I was 16 for a circ... surgery.
I didn't remember any of it. I got up and went to the bathroom though and blacked out, smashing my ribs on the side of the toilet. They found me in there on my knees, slung over the toilet. It wasn't my proudest moment. The next day I had my first and only migraine. It was one of the worst experiences of my life.
I have had over 2 dozen surgeries on my legs as a result of cancer I had when I was young... I have gotten pretty used to it and it doesn't phase me...
One time I was have a pretty massive and long operation where I had to be under for over 8 hours... With that much anesthesia, my heart nearly stopped (as the way anesthesia works is it slows your heart rate, slowing the oxygen flow to your brain through your blood, causing you to fall unconscious...) I had to be defibrillated to prevent my heart from stopping...
For method of intake, I choose IVs 100% of the time... I hate getting the mask as it is annoying, and smells terrible... Plus with the IV it is sort of relaxing as you go under... The arm your IV is in starts to feel cold, then your back goes numb, they ask you to start counting backwards and before you even realize you are counting your eyes are too heavy to keep open...
