Take a break from Politics, Religion, and Sex in Off-Topic for a moment and geek-out with me in the wake of the Riddler trailer: Which Arkham Asylum resident do you most appreciate, and why?

Certainly villains are not in short supply. Besides those listed above, notable villains include the inimitable Ra's Al Ghul, Mr. Freeze, Killer Croc, Clayface, and dozens more. Which is your favorite, and why?

Prior to the Animated Series launched in the early 90's I was partial to The Penguin, who was fantastic in the old Adam West television series. The animated series turned me on to Clayface and Mr. Freeze, whose stories were fleshed out and characters practically sizzled with emotion.

Batman Animated Series Villains

Definately Penguin with ra's al ghul coming in second. Now that you mention it, all of the batman villains are brilliant in their own way. And I can't say I'm not fond of harley quinn & poison ivy

Bane

Neither the cartoon nor movies does him justice. I really hope Christopher Nolan does him right because he is really one of Batman's smartest and most dangerous villians.

Two Face. Tragic villains are always the best. Shame he was short-lived in The Dark Knight but still, great movie.

When was he done justice; I've never seen Bane portrayed as anything other than the super-equivalent of a 'roid head? I know he snapped Batman's back, but I thought that was outside the "main" story arc? Not that anyone can keep track, right? :P Boz

No offense intended, but if you have nothing to offer, why reply at all? For example, if there were a thread asking about favorite baseball teams, I wouldn't go in and say, "None, I hate baseball." I don't see what point it serves either you or the discussion.

Two Face. Tragic villains are always the best. Shame he was short-lived in The Dark Knight but still, great movie.

leviathan91
In general I'd like to see fewer villains in the films. One is more than enough to flesh out the character and the back-story without going beyond the 90-minute mark. Batman Forever and its sequel as well as the third Spider-Man were all excellent examples of villain overload. To your point, The Dark Knight could have skipped Two-Face entirely in favor of The Joker, who stole the screen anyway; just my two-cents. Happy gaming, Boz

Really? in the comics bane was potrayed as a master tactician and trained fighter that also happenned to be addicted to Venom. And while I do not know of the cartoon the movie translation of bane was one of the worst from comics to another medium. Back to the original question though Two-Face has always been my favorite.

I never read much in the comics regarding Bane; most of my exposure to Batman is from the animated series and the movies, and Bane just never garnered the screen time of the other villains, which is why I asked. If he was a master tactician, as was indicated in his Wikipedia entry, it never made it to any of his animated or live-action portrayals, probably because having brains and brawn is a rarity outside the Superman arcs, in which case practically every villain is powerful and smart. Harley Quinn. It was hilarious when she had to work with Batman in TAS, and when she was finally release from Arkham only through a series a mis-understandings to be sent back.

Bane is awesome is the comics, hopefully he'll be awesome in The Dark Knight Rises (and knowing Nolan, he will).

The Joker, really the only comic villain that can compete against him is magneto (in terms of awesomeness, not strength)

but man does batman have a ton of great villains. Easily the best villain lineup ever

The interesting thing about Harley Quinn was she was created on the TV show NOT the comic. Then the comic wrote her in.

I really meant depth and awesomeness.

Lex is just mad scientist # 354, then turned into a business tycoon in the 80s

Doom is a standard over the top evil overlord

zoom, come on reverse flash:roll:

Compared to

Magneto: ex-holocaust survivor convinced mankind is pure evil , and wants his kind of superior being on top, which makes him in the end like the nazi's he hates

Joker: chaos in carnate. Like Alfred said. "Some men just want to watch the world burn down", and that makes him ****** terrifying. He does not want riches and glory in the end, but just to watch others suffer.

Joker: chaos in carnate. Like Alfred said. "Some men just want to watch the world burn down", and that makes him ****** terrifying. He does not want riches and glory in the end, but just to watch others suffer.

Going by comics

Lex: Luthour is a man who has become president of the US, just in spite of humanity for loving superman more. He has often been showed that he could easily cure cancer and other amazing feats if, he took a slight break from furthering his ambitions, and he would further his ambitions if he left superman alone. Lex is actually an old friend of clark kent, and was superboy(young clark kents) fan. He could not relate to human beings because of his intelecct and saw superboy as the only one who he could relate too. He actually lost his hair developing a way for superboy to come up with a kryponite immunity. There was an accident and he began to hate supes and mankind more. Lex murdered his own father and made it look as if his time in smallville never happened. Everything he does is an elaborate ploy for everyone to acknowledge that he is the worlds smartest man and look better then superman. From allowing his janitors son to get into a school(though it would mean a kid who earned it would not), to blowing up a bus full of kids to make it look like superman did it. He has blown up metropolis and populated planets, and started wars, not to mention saved earth. He has become almost godlike and could have made everyone in the universe eternally happy, but turned it down becaus that would make superman happy too. The joker is only a threat in gotham and can be put in prison, lex rarely pays for his crimes.

Dr.Doom:wrote the freaking book on how to be and evil overlord, but he is smart enough to keep it to himself becaus no one gets it right but him. The guy runs a country, has taken over the world, broken out of hell, raged wars against every hero on earth, and has made the world better. He is marvels mad villian for a reason, and magneto will never be able to reach his level, because magneto still tries to act like he has a conscience.

Zoom: Has gone back in time and changed history on a global scale. He does it because deep down he know the flash has ruined his future. He can not kill him directly because then he would not exist and vice versa. But zoom instead of sitting in stalemate has attacked and killed the people close to the flash. Since rebirth it is established zoom went back in time and killed Barry Alenns mother and framed his dad, murdered anyone close to him, and made him into a lonely isolated human being. He even killed the mans wife(but they retconed it that zoom can not hurt her)

Magneto is not even a villian anymore, and the joker stories have gotten stale imo. Joker more then any bat villian needs a major reboot. DC has completly lost what made this charachter interesting.

I have a lot of favorite Batman villains. They're all fantastic in their own ways!
