For one reason or anyohter, OT seems to hate maintream music but here is a thread to list off your favorite musicians and any additional information you want. Mainstream means they get radio airplay regularly, they are popular on all types of media, known by all, etc.

Lil Wayne:

Saw him live, he's great. Does party tracks, does tracks with insight, he does it all. He's a great musician if you give him the change just ignore Rebirth.

Kanye West:

Kanye West is mega talented, don't even underestimate him.

Eminem:

If anyone deserves their fame it's Eminem cause this guy is one of the best lyriscists and artists in the game. Hip Hop artists are afraid of him, they don't even wanna have him on their tracks lest he murder them on their own stuff.

Outkast

If they count (They do have the highest selling hip hop album of all time). They are my favorite duo of all time.

Wu Tang Clan

Yet again if they count, mega talented

I'm not a fan of rap, but I can relate. Most of the music I like tends to be rather mainstream. Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Breaking Benjamin and 30 Seconds to Mars are some of my favorite bands.

Most of my music is known to people at a certain time. Sure today you may not hear all these artists but not too many artists that I adore have been unable to reach some mainstream popularity.

You kidding? Wu-Tang is incredibly mainstream. I've never heard them yet I have heard about them several times every week for the last 5 years.

That entirely depends on where you live. Where I live, wu-tang belongs to a subculture. So no, i'm not kidding. :)

I think some of my music is mainstream but I'm not sure. A while back I started listening to really, really underground punk rock, like very unknown. And after that I started to get into more well known acts because the bands I did like, never came to Madrid or were broken up. So I pretty much consider anything pretty well known as mainstream. :P

Very true. Where I live no one talks about Wu-Tang or plays them. But I love them. An artist that I really enjoy that is mainstream is Josh Homme.

Difficult to me because I haven't been very loyal to many of the bands I like that hit the mainstream. It's not because i'm the type who thinks they have sold out or something, just seems to be a pattern that when they get to a certain point in fame they start to experiment with their music and lose the something I liked about them in the process.

Happened with My Chemical Romance and Happened with Muse, which will be my two answers to that question.

Probably Eminem. I would have said Dragonforce but I don't listen to them anymore. I still listen to Eminem occasionally. And Rise Against as well. I completely forgot that I heard them on a mainstream rock station over the summer.

I don't listen to any mainstream modern music, but I listen to a lot of mainstream classic rock (The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, etc.). The most mainstream stuff I listen to that's current is Radiohead, and they're kind of like...well-known indie. I don't know. Basically what I'm trying to say is that I don't listen to anything that's on the radio today, but I listen to a lot of popular older bands.
