World War II
Talking to my grandfather, a veteran, sparked my interest at a young age. Over the years I've amassed a number of books on the war and it's one of the reasons I majored in History in college.
World War 2 and Romes bloody campaigns.
I don't think anyone any Europe wanted to fight Hitlers Wehrmacht or the Roman Legions, both of them were beasts of the time. And both were notoriously cruel and intimidating.
My Great-Grandfather fought in Europe in WW2. where did yours fight?World War II

My maternal grandfather was in the Pacific but didn't see any action. My paternal grandfather was a tail gunner on a B-24, not sure which theater.
World War II, Second Punic War, and basically everything that happened inbetween Caesar's Civil War and the Republican's Final War.
You mean the last civil war between Augustus Caesar and Antonius/Cleopatras forces?World War II, Second Punic War, and basically everything that happened inbetween Caesar's Civil War and the Republican's Final War.

I've recently grown fascinated with some of Russia's post-45 conflicts such as Afghanistan and Chechnya as well as the Yugoslav Wars.

You mean the last civil war between Augustus Caesar and Antonius/Cleopatras forces?Yeah, that's the one. Antonius deserved everything he got for allowing himself to betray Rome for Cleopatra's power-lust, and for letting the Roman people starve by strangling the grain supply from Egypt. Don't see how he could've done that to his own nation.[QUOTE="Socialist696"][QUOTE="Aljosa23"]

That and distributing Roman lands to Cleopatra and her children. lol he was so whipped.Octavian played it so smart by getting the Senate to declare war on Cleopatra knowing Antony would try to rescue her like the whipped simp he is.

Antonius in my opinion was a failure who tried to live up to be something he could not. His campaign against Parthia was lacking, he did nothing really significant outside of Caesars shadow, and only betrayed the Roman people for lust. Quite a sorry situation, you'd think being with Caesar all those years through the Gallic Wars and 2nd Civil War he'd have learned a thing or two. Even in a naval battle, Augustus and Agrippa still utterly bested him. When Agrippa and Augustus came knocking on Egypts door he killed himself like a coward too. What a ant of a man, really.[QUOTE="Socialist696"]Antonius deserved everything he got for allowing himself to betray Rome for Cleopatra's power-lust, and for letting the Roman people starve by strangling the grain supply from Egypt. It's still weird to think 600 000 americans died fighting each otherThe Civil War. Not sure if favorite is the right word but I find it the most interesting.

I'm looking at a list of the most costly wars in history and I think more people have been killed in Chinese wars than the rest of the world's conflicts combined.....

Second Punic War. Hannibal couldn't be defeated on the battlefield. At least until Scipio Africanus came along. But fvck Africanus.
Interesting side note(rumour): Years after Scipio had defeated Hannibal then somehow they met during a peace meeting (Hannibal fled after his defeat). Scipio asked Hannibal where he ranked himself among histories generals. Hannibal said he ranks himself third in history. Behind Alexander and Marius (can't say for sure about Marius though, don't remember exactly who the second was. I think it was Marius because Hannibal had said something about his formation innovations. And Marius basically reformed Rome's armies. But like I said I might be wrong.)
Scipio laughs and asks him how high he would rank himself had he defeated him? Hannibal responds by saying that he would rank himself above all other men and gods.
