In your opinion, what is the best rock album and what are your favourite songs in it? I've recently became a fan of rock music after getting "Nevermind" by Nirvana and want to see what you guys like. I'll use your suggestions to build my music collection :)

Does this include metal albums? In that case, it's a tough choice between Black Sabbath's albums Black Sabbath and Master of Reality and Immortal's At the Heart of Winter. Favorite songs from them: From Black Sabbath: Black Sabbath, N.I.B., Wicked World From Master of Reality: Into the Void, Children of the Grave, Solitude, After Forever From At the Heart of Winter: Withstand the Fall of Time, At the Heart of Winter, Tragedies Blown at Horizon

Artist - Album: Beck - Mellow Gold

Best song: Pay No Mind (Snoozer)

Its more of an experimental album with a whole mess of genres but its rock at its core. The above song is one of the first I've learned on guitar and its ridiculously fun to play when you know all the lyrics and can sing it at the same time.

Rock? Go for Boston's first album, Boston. Excellent album. Best song has to be More than a Feeling.

If metal is included, I would suggest Queensryche's Operation Mindcrime album. Absolutly superb album. Best song is tied with I Don't Believe in Love and Eyes of a Stranger.

Wish You Were Here

That's the whole album .

Anyway, just some random stuff I like:

Dark Side of the Moon

- Brain Damage/ Eclipse

Lightbulb Sun

-Lightbulb Sun, Russia on Ice

There is Nothing Left to Lose

- Stacked Actors, Breakout, Learn to Fly

Aqualung

- Aqualung, Cross Eyed Mary, Locomotive Breath

Thick as a Brick

- Thick as a Brick (I know, I'm a hypocrite , pretty unavoidable.)

In the Court of the Crimson King

- 21st Century Schidzoid man, In the Court of the Crimson King, Epitah

Close to the Edge

-Close to the Edge, Siberian Khatru

Hamburger Concerto

- Hamburger Concerto, Hamburger Concerto, Hamburger Concerto....

Foxtrot

- Supper's Ready

Moving Pictures

- Pretty much anything off this

Songs for the Deaf

- Don't really know what I would choose as the best, but I really like this album.

I could go on, but it's more or less the same. I really need to properly explore other **** of music. I'm a bit stuck in the past, in a time whenI wasn't even born. One of the barriers for me is the number of tracks you get on newer albums. I find it a bit overwhelming. I'd rather just have a compact selection of 3-8 good tracks that last for about 40 minutes. Quite often albums are far too long in my opinion, often longer than 60 minutes. The other barrier is the sheer amount of music I would have togo through.

Yeah, they rarely get mentioned even though they wrote some of the best music out of the whole Seattle Grunge scene.
