Your opinion on the straight edge lifestyle

I learned about the straight edge lifestyle before finding out about CM PUNK, and it's to never drink or smoke or do drugs that inflict damage on your health.
Im doing pretty okay on this...

Straight edgers abstain from recrational drugs, including tobacco and alcohol. Some followers of the straight-edge philosophy also abstain from promiscuous sex, the regular use of painkillers, and the intake of caffeine. Some also practice vegetarianism or veganism. Many have claimed to be deeply Spiritual, while still more associate themselves with Atheism, seeing religion as much of a mind-altering substance as drugs and alcohol.

It's alright if you keep it to yourself, but if you preach about it to other people who choose not to be straight edge, then you've crossed a line.  I've met a few people who take it as their personal mission to stop me from doing a few (harmless, I might add) drugs.  But on the other hand, I get along just fine with all the other straight edge people.crucifine

streight edgers...XXX-ers...and I ...we dont get along so great :| I am punk (so ive been told...screw stereotypes though...((as i dont know if this is a contradictory post lol but...yea)), I like my booze, and I like muscle relaxers on occasion (its never anything addictive though and it really really helps with the pain in my knees). o_o. xhellcatx

I mean just a couple of weeks ago I went to a local punk concert, and there were some straight edgers with their fancy X's on their arms. One of them saw me enjoying a nice beer and a smoke, and the fool came and started to preach to me all kinds of crap about his lifestyle, even though I know plenty of it since I have few friends who are straight edgers themselves. When I told the guy that it's really my own choice to drink alcohol and smoke, he nearly punched me to the face. I mean I'm pretty sure thatIan MacKaye didn't mean that you should come and force the straight edge down people's throats. :?SinkO

 Once I realized that I wanted to just keep to myself and really make it my own choice, I stopped the whole "True til Death!" ordeal. Backing out of that allowed me to try drinking without fear of feeling I had "sold out," and I have reaffirmed that drinking just isn't for me since then. Also, dropping the whole label allowed me to drop this whole stigma I had built in that all people who drink, use or smoke (tobacco or otherwise) are horrible people. It's just not the truth. In that sense, straight edge only clouds your mind, which contradicts the label's goal of trying to clear it.

So, in short, straight edge sucks. Just keep to yourself.
