I'd like to start off (since this it OT) by saying i'm not trying to attack anyone and i'd just like to hear a general consensus.

personally it baffles me. i can't understand how it still has a fanbase (esp with MMA's newfound popularity). i can understand if you're 12 and under (not trying to offend) but other than that it just makes my head hurt. whenever i see anything wrestling related it just screams corny in the same way as a flaming skull t-shirt.

i respect the old Andre the Giant days, but i'm talking about the soap opera version of today

you?

Have you seen UFC?! Blood everywhere  WWE as a child I never understood the popularity....they just said it "was a white people thing" which made me even more confused

WWE has been embarrassing since the Invasion and the name change. Absolutely terrible. Sometimes I watch TNA, but that company has way more talent than it does direction or good sense. Wrestling was great in the 80s, but I think the best period was 1993-1999. ECW, WCW, and WWF were all doing some great things in those days (for the most part).

I liked it when I was a kid (and thought it was real, lol), stopped watching for a while (pretty much when I found out it wasn't real), but recently have started watching again cause it's kind of entertaining (don't care that it's not real).

Just for the record though I like UFC too... yeah, I bet you didn't think it was possible to like both :P

It is somewhat entertaining at times. I remember going to see wrestling with my dad when I was like 8 years old, like 15 years ago, in the golden age of wrestling with Razor Ramon, Yokozuna, Diesel, 1-2-3 Kid, Bret Hart, Stone Cold, The Rock, Bam Bam Bigelow, Lex Luger, and probably dozens more I'm forgetting.

Nowadays I watch it from time to time, sometimes I even watch almost the entire show (that's very rare), but mostly I may look at one match or two. There is some pretty entertaining s*** going on at times, if you can follow/understand whatever the hell is actually happening. But yeah, it can be mind-bogglingly (does that even exist?) stupid at times. And some characters are very, very bad/annoying.

I must admit I am always a bit baffled that there are 15-20 thousand people on hand each week, it's very popular...

I absolutely hated it growing up and I always looked on it with initial child-like bafflement leading into atypical teen dismissal of anything I wasn't into. My dismissal of wrestling lasted until my mid thirties in which I happened to catch the film Hitman Hart: Wrestling with Shadows and I realized I really didn't know anything about what wrestling entailed.

Watched a bit of WWF wrestling during latter stages of the "attitude era" and was pretty entertained by some of the characters and by the level of stuntwork involved especially considering that at that time tag team wrestling was the more respected aspect of the program and there were a lot of very good teams doing very, very, crazy stuff. Started watching some ECW and was stunned by the technical level of talent being displayed and the time length allowed to the wrestlers to put on a solid show. Eventually an English professor and a linguist master friend of mine convinced me to attend local PWG (Pro Wrestling Guerrilla) and that really opened my eyes to how brutal and how incredibly awesome wrestling could truly be.

Now wrestling from every show on TV is so watered down and so desperately stripped down in order to court the family viewer that their shows are at times rather difficult to watch. I give them occasional look sees, but usually they are just reminders of how far from actual entertaining wrestling shows they truly are. But really, after you attend a few could live PWG shows, wrestling on TV just seems pointless.

I just recently got back into a few months ago....I hadnt seen it in years...Its changed alot ...Now there PG which bothers me but...I still see it as entertainment rather than a sport. Don't get me wrong its hard work but more fun to make fun of as I was than actually take it seriously . If you joke about it its better than taking it seriously . :D

I've never been much into it, and that has nothing to do with UFC. Some of the stunts (is that the right term?) are impressive, but it doesn't hold my attention enough to want to spend my time on it.

I used to like it when The Rock and Stone Cold and RVD were doing cool **** , and i used to love watching old recorded tapes of Hulk hogan, just loved his walkout music and the stuff he did.

Now i cant bear to watch it knowing not just thats its fake but the winner of a match was decided before it started.

Now i watch UFC and MMA and before UFC i watched Pride and K-1, ahhh so many good fights,

Also btw Brock Lesnar is a joke.

People will say "ITS FAKE, SO LAME" which is true. It is fake, much like every fictional movie in existence (which is what all the wrestling fans will say) which is also true. However, being fake, it has to be good quality, much like one's expectation for a movie or television show. I feel it is not up to par, as wrestling is so very very cheesy and not in a good way, the acting sucks, even the wrestling aspect now is cheesy and suspension of disbelief can only take you so far with some of the story lines they put in it.

I agree with savebattery that the best period was around 93-99. There was a lot of competition between WCW and WWF back then and both leagues had great creators and stables of faces and heels. I stopped watching as the storylines became riddled with cheap betrayals and ridiculous alliance shifts. I don't imagine that one corporation having all the power is good for the medium, I might have to check it out sometime and see what they have going on these days.

Also TC it's kind of funny you say you are not trying to offend yet you impugn upon the intelligence and maturity of anybody that enjoys professional wrestling.

Because most of those guys have the acting ability of a wooden plank (aka Keanu Reeves).

As for wrestling....I don't watch much anymore (actually pretty much never, as I haven't had television service in years), but it can be fun. In a cheap, cheesy kind of way. I've been to a few live WWE events (back when they were still WWF). The biggest was 'No Mercy' in 2001 (main event was Rob Van Dam, Kurt Angle and Steve Austin in a triple threat match).

Recently my nephew has been wrestling on a local/regional level. He's been at it for a year or two and is now starting to travel to other states to wrestle from time to time. Unfortunately I haven't gotten a chance to watch him in person yet, but I hope to soon.

Oh, and for the "it's fake" people: congratulations on pointing out something that most of us figured out by the time we were 8.

You must remember, it is not and nor does it pretend to be a sport. It classes its self as entertainment. It is no different from a film, in a manner of speaking. Personally I think of it as a soap opera for men.

I have always watched it on and off ever since the early days of WWF transitioning from the big over the top guys to the Attitude Era along side WCW and ECW once it hit television on then TNN. Today I still watch it but mainly Monday Night Raw since it is their flagship program but the PG "rating" of the program has kind of ruined if for me.

Today I don't even recognize half the roster and most of the main eventers from when it turned to PG aren't even around anymore except Edge, Orton, Cena and Big Show. They just don't have the characters anymore like they used to which is what makes the wrestling shows. If you don't have the characters then most people aren't going to watch. Yes TNA is out there and Ring of Honor is out there on TV but the problem with TNA is that they have way to many old WWF and WCW guys but not enough time to involve them all.

Ring of Honor just lost their TV contract with HDNet so hard telling if they are even going to be coming back but they only get an hour to fill from their tapings.

Hell yes I love it. I just don't take it too seriously. If you study its history, it has roots in carnival sideshows. It's pure entertainment, like a circus. Not everything has to be intellectually stimulating.
