Great filmmakers. And True Grit was amazing. Not amazing simply because it's just a great western, and yet amazing because it's just a great western. The Coen brothers can do quirky, but I wasn't sure that they had it in them to be able to make a straight genre film. They not only succeded, but they made one of the best western films in years.

That's a hell of a sentence.
I like them. There are a few of their movies that I'm not a huge fan of but I love The Big Lebowski, Fargo, and No Country for Old Men.

Not sure how it was anti-climatic. It had the big shootout towards the end, pretty much like all westerns.

I agree, the movie was pretty slow paced. There wasn't any suspense or anything throughout the movie and it pretty much ended on a low note too. But it wasnt a bad movie.I honestly didn't get No Country For Old Men. Fargo was a load of nonsense. I haven't seen True Grit yet, but my friends have told me that it wasn't very good. I'll give it a look now that its RedBoxed.
they should have made inglouris Basterds.

You can't improve on what was already a horrible movie to begin with. Oh and LMAO @ The Big Lebowski. The Coens only seem to excel at taking great actors and making them all look awful. I nearly passed out when I watched TBL because of how inane it was.
I'm a big Coen Brothers fan. Love Fargo, No Country for Old Men, True Grit, and especially the Big Lebowski.

None of the characters really developed.. The bad guys weren't really bad guys nor did they ever really give them any development.. To me it felt like the movie just really went no where through the majority of the time.. When it has come to recent westerns like Open Range and Unforgiven were far more enjoyable movies.. Westerns are becoming quite stale be honest, they heavily borrow from one another.. And the characters are extremely cliche.

Character development wasn't really the aim of that movie. The movie purposed to tell a simple story set over the course of a few days. And yeah, westers are cliche. The same can be said about every genre. True Grit is a great western in that it's a pure western in every sense of the word. It delivers exactly what's expected from the genre and it delivers it well. It's an homage to the classic westerns that popularized the genre back in the day and doesn't try to be anything more than that. I kinda get the feeling that a lot of people who didn't like it watched it expecting it to be something it was never intended to be.
I disagree completely. True Grit is one of the Coen brother's worst films and is not a very good film at all. It was well photographed and acted, but it was poorly written.Great filmmakers. My fave Coen joint is Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou?. As for True Grit, it was good, but they played up the sentimentality element (as per the original film) a little too much toward the end. But when they switch to Mattie Ross as an adult at the very end, it goes back to proper Coen fair.
My opinion of the Coen Brothers is that I have never seen a Coen Brothers movie, which means they must make movies that I don't go out my way to watch.
I love True Grit. A lot :P O Brother Where Art Thou? is awesome as well. I want to watch more of their work
