I enjoy reading other peoples opinions about games I enjoyed or disliked. I was just wondering when you all write game reviews here on gamespot, how much care do you put into them? It seems to me I put alot more than alot of people. Mainly because I like to write, but also because giving a "low" score to a popular game never seems to be justified, people just write how they like it or hate it,not why. I find that writing , and even reading, game reviews is quite entertaining and really shows you the really good writers out there that deserve a job as a game reviewer way more than some of the people hired by companys such as IGN. What are your thoughts?

I haven't written a game review in such a long time. I'm just too lazy to. :(

I put a lot of thinking and care into my reviews. Not like the ones saying:

" THISS IS THE BESST GAME EVER!!!1!!1"

:P

By the time I get a game its way too late to write a review...but I do appreciate them as it helps me to decide on what to get when I eventually do. I often go by the sites reviews...but like checking out users reviews as well just to balance it out.

I score games but I don't review. I'm too lazy to that, but if I were to reviewa game, I would put a ton of effort into my review.

I only write reviews for games that I felt were big disappointments(Fable 2) or great underrated/underexposed gems(Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath)

I completely agree with that aspect Ace, as a reviewer I can give a voice to games that very few people know of, and I really enjoy that as well.

The last review I wrote was in Nov 2004, and as evidenced by the recommendations, they aren't well written (and I'm sure full of grammatical errors). My review for Shenmue is full of naive hyperbole -- I still love the game immensely but I didn't really point out any flaws in the game, and it certainly has some. Giving it a 10 in this current scoring system doesn't mean much, since I regard the final score as a reflection of the overall impression I had of the game (like GS's old tilt system), but back then when you had to rate the gameplay/sound/value/graphics/tilt all 10 in order to get a 10 is where I probably let my undying love for the game take over.

Well I'll be! If THAT ain't a name I haven't seen in a long ass time! CodyLamp, how the hell are ya! Anyway, I review a lot now. I make it a habit to review everything I beat. I try my best to make sure the review flows, and explains the score. As for the amount of work I put into it, I usually just wing it. Reviews hardly take more than a couple of hours to do.

I recently reviewed a couple of PS2 games. It's never too late to review a game, only if you're paid to do it and miss your deadline. :P

I like to write about games. I'm not a great writer, but I feel I get my point across. I was thinking about doing another review soon...just haven't picked a game yet.

This pretty much. It's hard for me to review a game based on facts and not opinions.

Last game I reviewed was over a year ago. I believe I did fairly well regarding it's contents.

Quite a lot actually. I usually take about 2 hours to write one, then I check it for errors, and post it. Usually my reviews are posted on numerous other sites, and with every submission I check for errors. English is not my maternal language, so I can't guarantee that they are perfect, but at least they look pretty dandy. I also spend a lot of time on the format (pictures, paragraphs, grades, etc.), but I don't implement that in the GS versions of my reviews as the technology is too primitive.

One of the reasons I've started using the forums again for the first time in 3 years is because of Reviewing. I've just written a Mass Effect 2 review (Link: if you fancy checking it!). Its the first review I've ever written and I've decided to take it up as a past time, mainly to get more money out of my games (If I review a game then thats an extra few hours life out of it).

I hate most the reviews I read here on game spot, they're lazy and badly written, but I am all up for reading reviews done by people who put time and effort into their reviews!
