She no longer shares the same religious views that made her the person you love. Now, she claims belonging to a religion whose doctrines you don't accept. She is still loving to you and will promise to be by your side despite her new beliefs. Do you stay married to her or do you get a divorce?

I honestly don't know what I would do. I hate the d-word, but I do want to think the only logical choice is to get a divorce to someone who now shares a set of religious beliefs different than I do. I don't think I could accept someone who loved God before herself or me even and considered God to be the basis for her life, for example, even if she was kind and sweet to me. It would just seem wrong, as though we were no longer meant to be. I think, though, that I would rather stay with her than move on because I really do hate the idea of divorce in any circumstance, even if it may be logically justified sometimes.

Marriage hardly has anything to do with love.

It's about taxes, financies, managing a household and raising children.

Yes, quite possibly. I'm not very religious already, but as long as it doesn't change my entire life or my diet, I wouldn't really see the point of changing religion. Unless it's a place they pay to be at, then I'd leave them.

As long as she doesn't try and force her beliefs down my throat I wouldn't care. If she starts trying to convert me to her new religion I would start thinking about leaving her.

Well, in this hypothetical scenario, she was whatever you were or close to it. Now, she belongs to a religion that you don't accept.

I wouldn't care. My wife is religious and I am not. I didn't marry her religion. She is a grown woman and can do whatever the hell she wants so long as she leaves me out of it.

In a situation like that, I really don't know what I would do. It's one of those things that I would probably have to adjust to as it happened.

Also, asking this question in OT isn't really effective since the vast majority of OT is Athiest and probably wouldn't care as long as the sex kept coming. Unless their spouse tried to forcibly convert them or was spending a lot of money on tithe and other things at church.

I don't marry someone because they have the same religion as me, I don't even care if they're the same ethnicity. If she changes it won't matter to me, and judging by the types of girls I'm into then things will probably go on normally

If I married with a religious girl I would say before hand I'm Atheist and if she wants our relationship to continue better don't try to persuade me to join her religion. After that, I don't care, that's her choice.

I wouldn't love someone for their religious views in the first place. Unless it's a religion that is going to have her do something immoral/disgusting in my eyes, I'd rather her drop religion in the first place though.

Unless is was something nutty and cultish, or she became a fundie, I doubt it would truly change her character. Who cares about someones beliefs as long as they are personal? Hell, it might make for some interesting discussions. I might say no to going to church, but it depends on the situation.

I wouldn't care in the first place if my spouse shared my views. As long as she didn't impose her views on me and tried to make me change, I'd be fine with it.

You are completely wrong, he's around 50, bald, Aussie bloke, Catholic. He calls us "scrotums" and "hooligans". We make fun of him being bald, he make fun of us, funniest religion class so far.

My opinion on religion is let you have your religious beliefs and let me have mine. I don't particularly care what other people believe provided they don't try to force their beliefs on me.

If she became a jew or christian, I'd stay married. Any other religion, I would break up with her. Aside from my religion forbidding me to stay married with her, it would not work out because our views would be too different. It would be even worse if we already had a kid because I don't want that kid to be indoctrinated into whatever religion the mother chose.

Love and compassion is "too different"? And doesn't the Qur'an say that Allah brought prophets of his Word to all people's with the same message?

I want to be married a woman who puts God first because He's the most important thing to me; and his laws dictate everything I do and say. A break-up would be for my own good and for hers as well. I'd be cool with having a friendship with the woman, but nothing more.

The Qur'an does say that many prophets were sent to many different nations, but that verse has no relevance to marriage. It says that for the people who wonder how someone could've been a muslim if they were born in between the lifetimes of the prophets mentioned in the Qur'an.

If it's taken at face value, I guess. My sigis mainly addressed to things like wars, backbiting, suicide bombings, religious discrimination, etc.
