How do you react if you were watching a movie and there is the actor wearing Nikes then in the background is a billboard for a HP computer, then at home you could see Dr Pepper and Aquafina and him using Bing for his search engine? Pretty much if you have seen Transformers or Real Steel you could easily see Product Placement. Do you think it effects a movie in a negative way, change your life, make you run out of the theater and buy Nikes instead of Adidas?

I notice it a lot. I think the absolute worst movie for it that I've ever seen is "She's out of my league", if I remember correctly. The product placement was so obnoxious. If it's not obnoxious, then I don't mind. But when it's really in-your-face it's annoying.

They help pay for movie budgets and help the economy roll.

Have you seen what some movies look like in other countries? :?

I'm not sure why we notice such things, perhaps camera focus, but it's obvious when it happens and I always find it to be tacky.

Not a big deal in most cases. Product placement is a natural part of real life, so it makes sense that there'd be product placement in movies too. Hell...I even find it more annoying when they AVOID product placement when product placement would make more sense. Like when a dude is at the bar and instead of ordering a Heineken or something, he orders a Beer Brand Beer. Or how the dude in The X-Files smoked Morley Brand Cigarettes, when the box is clearly designed after Marlboros. So...just freaking call them Marlboros. But yeah...it is definitely possible to go too far with product placement. A classic example being Will Smith's shoes in the movie I, Robot. Usually though, I don't have a problem with product placement.

Natural product placement, like what a typical person would see in real life or having products one would use in real life is fine. Product placement that clearly puts a major emphasis on the product to the point where it feels like a commerical, is not fine.

Even then, sometimes in movies "natural" advertisements stick out for some reason.

The one case I can think of is the E.T. ripoff Mac and Me back in the late '80s, with their heavy use of Coca-Cola and McDonald's products.

Every now and then if it's painfully obvious it irks me like if the actor is holding something awkwardly so the brand logo is showing or something.

I quite like obvious-yet-subtly-incorporated product placements like in Forrest Gump, when he says he must have drunk about 15 Dr. Peppers, or the bit when you see the apple logo when he's talking about his shrimping money investments.

At the end of the day films have got to be paid for somehow.

depends on how it's done. if a guy drinks a coke just as anyone would and not holds it label side to camera then its ok. otherwise it's annoying. but it's equally annoying to see a guy holding a can that just say "cola" on it... make it authentic without making it a commercial.

Yes...because people in real life don't wear Nike, you never see billboards for products, people never drink Dr. Pepper or Aquafina. Search engines? Like anyone ever uses those. I

I actually like product placement in movies. Makes them seem more real with well known brands in the background. Having a coke machine in the background of a scene looks better than having a "ZIPPO COLA" or "SODA" machine

I witness the product placement in movies such as "E.T." (Reese's Pieces) and "Hocus Pocus" (Clark Bar candy bars). Those were such good times. I even noticed Pizza Hut ads in "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game" when I was little.

While it isn't a brand placement, the emphasis on bottled water in Big Bang Theory annoys me.

Generally it doesn't annoy me, unless it is rather in-your-face type of thing.

Apple has got to be the most notorious user of product placement. Every damn PC one sees in a movie tends to be by Apple. Considering the market share of Apple PCs, product placement can make things unrealistic as well.

I don't mind it if it's somewhat subtle. If someone's drinking a Pepsi, don't have the can turned and the actor's hand positioned so that "Pepsi" is displayed clearly to the viewer. Just have it normally - like you can tell what it is but don't stick it in my face.

Sometimes it's painfully obvious, sometimes I don't even notice. It just depends on the movie I suppose, if I was watching someone drink Dr Pepper it wouldn't bother me. Director Micheal Bay likes to show obvious product placement and it's really annoying. Look at 'The Island', it has a Xbox placement and it really doesn't make any sense.

I like it when filmmakers make up their own products to create a world all their own. Examples: Big Kahuna Burger and Red Apple Cigarettes in Quentin Tarantino's films, Chewlees Gum and the Mooby franchise in Kevin Smith's films, etc.

in some movies it makes sense and works. i think in the matrix, their phones were nokia? that would make sense because it is a movie revolving around technology. if there were clothing or soft drink brands that makes me frown. also, subtlety can be useful. showing just a hint of a product can be good because a) when the viewer sees a non-obvious brand it has a stronger impact on him/her and b) if it's subtle but clear enough to make me want to look up on the internet what it was, that is GREAT.
