I live in the UK, Scotland to be more precise. Over here the legal age to drink is 18 years old, as opposed to the United States where the legal age is 21. I am sure that plenty of you have drank underage before be it at a college/house party or have been to clubs and bars. Im 17 years old and I drink occasionally, and I have a few times been to clubs and bars. Im not extremely underage, but I am underage none the less. Whats your thoughts? Did you/Do you drink under the legal age of your country?

I think underage drinking is fine, provided the drinker doesn't get out of hand or do anything stupid like drive. I've drank (I'm 17 in the US) and there's nothing wrong with that. Most people who drink underage that I know are smart about it ;)

I don't drink anything. I don't really see a point. I don't do drugs or smoke cigarettes either. It's a personal choice everyone has to make. Anyone can get drugs or alcohol if they know the right people.

I live in Canada, and in my province legal age is 19.

I've been drinking since I was 15, my parents found out when I was 16. Once I talked with them and they decided that I could do it responsibly, they now let me go out and drink with my friends. They drive me there, pick me up, and even buy the liquor for me (I give them the money, I do work).

I think it's fine as long as you are smart about it.

I think it's about as good as drinking at any other age. The issue is that saying something's forbidden makes it automatically way more tempting.

Fine... as long as it is supervised by the parents of the children and not to excess.

My parents or relatives buy me beer when I tell themI am going to a party etc. They understand that I am responsible about it. Some people I know do it not because they enjoy it but with their main goal of getting so unbelievably plastered that they don't remember a thing the next morning. I couldn't do that it just doesn't make for an enjoyable night. I have taken it a bit too far a couple of times before, I will admit. But I have learned from those mistakes and I try to be responsible. Like you said, just stay smart about it!

Well, I know some people that drink at my school, and I honestly think they just drink to feel cool and because they aren't allowed to, so they feel like rebels when they are doing something they aren't supposed to. I'm pretty sure that they all feel that way, at least at my school.

I don't drink, and I'm fifteen years old. I can have a good time without drinking beer, and don't really care for it.

What are my thoughts on underage drinking? It's against the law, and you should be punished if you aren't the legal age. There aren't any "if's," "and's", or "or's" about it. It's the law, and no matter how rediculous it is, you still have to follow it.

I mean, I don't really care if people drink, but if they get kicked off a sport team for drinking, then they better not freaking complain about it, because they brought it upon themselves.

I agree... with all drinking, if people are sensible about it and know their limits, there is very little risk involved. Some people are complete idiots about it... they drink for the sake of it, drinking so much that it gets to a point where its not fun, and they end up in hospital :?

Exactly. And once you get really trashed that one time, you don't really wanna do it again. My fifth time drinking I think, I drank WAY too much, ended up puking half the night, woke up the next morning, puked off and on for like twenty five minutes. Since then, I don't think I'll ever drink for the sake of getting totally smashed.

What do you mean by "extremly" so they let you get "kinda" drunk?

The drinking age should definitly be 18. I didn't drink until this year (I am 18) and I am 1)glad I waited and 2) confident I am mature enough to not be an idiot. Not everyone who is 18 is smart about it (obviously) but then again there are 21 year olds who are immature drinkers.

NO, it's not fine because the fact is a lot of kids are not smart about it. Many end up driving and hurting someone else.

When I was underage, yes I did. I think it's fine if you're in college. But high school drinking is no bueno.

I think there is a legal age for a reason, and people should follow it. It's only 19 here, and i'm 18 and have never drank an alcoholic beverage. I don't plan to even when i turn 19.

Parents should accept the fact that their teenage kids are probably going to try alcohol. Instead of punishing them, they should be teaching their kids to be responsible when drinking. Your kids are more likely to get a ride from an intoxicated friend when they're afraid of calling you saying they need a safe ride home.

I think that if youre old enough to fight and die for your country, you should be old enough to have a beer.

EDIT as for people under 18, i dont think it would be wise for them to do so since they are (most likely) in highschool, of course people 18+ are most likely in college too, but they are adults.

The human liver is usually fully developed by age 16, however the impletmentation of a higher drinking age is all about maturity. That being said, i strongly oppose anyone under the age of 16 drinking anything.

My thoughts are that almost everyone will be involved with underage drinking while underage. It's just part of our society.

The drinking age here in the US is freaking ridiculous. Just because you are older does NOT mean you are neccesarily any wiser or anything. I am definitely more intelligent and mature than my 46 year old step-dad and I am only 19....

Yeah, getting drunk is most definitely retarded. I think part of the reason people get drunk and develope alcoholism at younger ages is because they try and drink as much as they can while they have acess to it. It makes it more of a special thing when you rarely have acess to it.....

yes when i was younger i drank all the time. it was fantastic, there really is no down side unless you over do it.

why is it bad to drink when youre not 21? because your government said so, thats why. who cares.

when you turn 21, it loses some of its magic.

I drank maybe once before turning 21, I really had issues with my whole floor froshy year of college being the drunkest floor around. It killed me. I really wish they hadn't drunk so much.

I bought my cousin's who were underage booze one night, felt horrible but i did it because I wanted to be the "cool cousin". Thank goodness nothing bad happened that night. I was there alot when they were drinking underage. but I couldn't stop them.

So I disagree with it. but it happens and I can't stop it
