In my opinion I feel that Windows 8 is not such a bad addition. Multitasking is faster, Windows 8 performs slightly faster than 7 (speed tests). I do have same dislikes however. The the Start Menu is GONE. It's replaced by the Metro UI. Overall, it's alright I guess, but I do miss the start menu :'(

Haven't used it, but if the start menu is really gone then I'm glad i haven't.

I have no interest in it. And judging by the sales not many others do either.

It's like they ported a tablet OS to the PC. Unless all you do on your PC is browsing and listening to music, it's simply horrible.

given the fact that Windows 7 is overall ,a very good operating system , as well as a bit of insider information , Im inclined not to try Windows 8 any time soon.

Win8 looks like something one would find on a tablet computer, not a PC.

I can get it for free so I'll probably try it out soon at some point. Although my expectations are low.

It's not bad, just different really. The real kicker is if their One Windows strategy works out well. If that comes to fruition, the possibilities are astounding.

I like it. Takes a little while to get used to the charms menu, but other than that it functions just like Win 7 -- you just treat the start screen like an embiggened start menu and ignore all the other Metro stuff.

So on the whole you're basically getting a nicer looking and sounding (it sounds dumb, but the new sound effects aresooooo much more pleasant) Win 7 with a bunch of nice improvements like shorter boot times, the new task manager and file transfer window, better overall performance, etc. Not something I'd rush out and buy at full price, but the promotional Win 8 Pro upgrade isn't a bad way to spend $40.

It's decent but nothing revolutionary. It passes as a meager improvement over 7 but is by NO means a major improvement. Buy it only if you have Vista or XP or an aged copy of 7 that you plan to reinstall and don't mind learning a new UI, if you're running a fairly newer install of 7 you'd almost completely be wasting your time.

It was pretty good for the brief time I used it, but then it broke my bootloader so I reinstalled 7. I'd be pretty mad if it wasn't free from MSDN.

I love it. But I have OCD so the minimalist look and prefect rectangles are like sex to my brain. Windows 8! The OS choice of the mentally ill! Hell yeah!

I only upgraded to Windows 7 earlier this year...

I'll do another XP, and give it several years for the next version, when I actually need to update.

Going for that whole Apple connectivity stuff.

As long as they can cater to both types of people it'll be fine.

Until it gets some decent competition from the market in terms of a user friendly OS (which is what Windows 8 is trying) it'll stay that way. So far I have yet to see evidence.

Atleast in the smartphone market Samsung's Androids have dethroned the iPhone. Hopefully this will mean more radical changes for the next iteration

It's a pretty decent OS. Takes some time to get use to. If you miss the start menu get start8 from stardock
