With movie streaming becoming more and more popular, it seems only a matter of time before video-sharing behemoth YouTube begins renting and possibly selling video-on-demand content.

A report on entertainment website The Wrap today suggests that YouTube will begin streaming movies from major Hollywood studios as soon as next week. Quoting executives from YouTube familiar with the situation, the report suggests that YouTube has been waiting to tie up all major studios before announcing the deal - but still has a number of deals to broker. Studios such as Universal, Sony and Warner Brothers have all signed up to licence their films to be rented or sold by YouTube but others such as Disney, Paramount and Fox are yet to sign on the dotted line.TrustedReviews

The above is only an excerpt. You can read the full article here, yeh?

I welcome this piece of news. I just hope that the movies will be available regardless of the region one is in.

Another website that allows people to rent digital copies of movies....because there weren't enough places like that already.

YouTube could perhaps gain quite a foothold in the digital rental market in the EU as there really aren't that many websites that offer it. Even LoveFilm, the most prominent example I can think of, is rather lacklustre.

Yay I guess. Don't really see the point overall, apart from perhaps the name recognition that YouTube has.

I'll probably keep buying physical disk, but it certainly will be interesting when internet TV's get better and the youtube streaming service is at your fingertips.

Actually lovefilm looks pretty rockin. Whats wrong with it? Seems to destroy blockbuster which is the only service I know of that provides games and movies.

Are we talking physical or digital rentals here? Does Blockbuster even have digital rentals?

Surely they could still let you watch it for free but insert advertisements or something so as to make monies. At least it'd be on demand.
