(If you want to see the Logan Paul video, a google search can locate it but I don't recommend doing so if you are easily disturbed or triggered by death but this also already hit the local news anyway)

Just to get to the point, Paul Logan went to Japan's Aokigahara AKA "Suicide Forest" is a (forest where depress people go to kill themselves) restricted area where it is repeatedly posted and told by forest services that guests aren't allowed to go. With a camera. Starts filming corpse, laughs about it and turn it into a Vlog. For Paul, he sure got a good load of backlash and this story made it to headline news.

And what I find ironic about all of this he has repeatedly apologize but unfortunately for him, the damage is beyond already done:

I like Logan Paul's Vines (RIP Vine) but this was really, really dumb. Still, I think it was just something stupid on the part of a guy who's pretty young rather than some malicious or cold, calculated attempt to generate controversy and by extension get him more views.

While its troubling. This is exactly what's gonna happen. Initial outrage. Celebrities and social activists make statements. Some legal issues. Next big controversy. Everyone moves on. And largely forgets what happened or stops caring.

Still will prevent sponsors from working with Logan though for a very long time. But I wouldn't count on this one incident ending his online career for good.

Not watching the video, but I doubt he is sorry. Like Pewdiepie keep saying he's sorry for the dumb stuff he does, only to keep doing stupid stuff again and then apologies for them.

I watched it. They seemed genuinely surprised at what happened and just didn't know how to react. Still, the issue here is that even though they blurred it they actually showed some poor dead person in the video.

Like what Byshop said, they stumble a dead body for the first time as if someone's been murder in front and just didn't know how to react in a way. Japan respects the dead more seriously then the West does.

Everyone reacts to death, and dead bodies specifically, differently. But this is just disgraceful.

Still, we all make mistakes, and the person the disrespect matters most to is dead, so no reason to ruin a live person's life over it "on principle". The best we can do is simply ignore this tool, acknowledge what he did as terrible, and let him vanish into obscurity.

Unfortunately I never knew who this guy was, but now I do; thanks, internet outrage, for making me less ignorant of the things I prefer to be ignorant of.

*Also, apology videos? C'mon, not genuine...at all.

@Byshop: I get that sometimes people react in strange ways when confronted with something surprising or shocking. Having said that, unless this was streamed live then I figure that at some point in the editing process he should have had enough sense to realize not to show it.

@Byshop: you're overlooking that he isn't just some kid walking around recording himself. He does this for a career, he has employees, he plans ahead.

He wasn't wandering about in his local park and happened to find a dead guy while live streaming. He booked a flight to Japan so he could go to a place known as "suicide Forest" he then recorded the body of a suicide victim, flew back to America, watched back through the footage, gave the footage to his editor, watched the edited version, and then decided to upload it to YouTube.

What the hell, I can't remove Filthy Frank's Voice saying "It's just a prank bro" everytime I see this topic.

But ok seriously now, the dude will do anything for fame without thinking about the consequences just like a real psychopath. Cause think about it, he had a lot of time editing the video but he still decided to add the clip to his Youtube content which can be access by an 8-16 years old (which creates the majority of his fanbase). Also he's already at legal age so I'm pretty sure he knows what he is doing. And read this, I saw an article about people or rather kids trying to defend what Logan Paul did, in a point that they are like even mocking suicide. Depression and Suicide is a serious matter and kids of our new generation must know this. So my point here is I don't care on what you do because you're already old and know what is wrong or right so please think about the effects your actions can do.

I'm more pissed at youtube it's a clear violation of their TOS but the Pauls are their golden boys so while everyone else is getting demonetized or banned for simply having a different viewpoint no action was taken or punishment yet pewds loses his red series.

@borninblood60: it is pretty dumb. Pewdiepie deserved getting his show cancelled, but why are they doing nothing to someone that did something worse? Doesn't help that there's also very little human oversight

Haven't seen the video, and not intending to make light of the offense. It's terrible, and shows how little integrity this guy has as well as how horribly skewed his priorities are.

However. If the corpse is blurred out, how can it be so offensive? The media blurs out corpses on the "news" on a daily basis.

Should have but didn't. I don't know the guy personally, but he's 22 and most people at that age haven't dealt with death in any sort of real capacity. Posting this video was a dumb decision for sure, but from what I've seen I think that's all it was. Of course, that's just my impression. I have no idea.

I realize all that. Of course the trip was premeditated and I get that this wasn't a live stream where something unexpected happened. Not all bad decisions are "spur of the moment". Yes, there were a lot of steps and points where he could have decided not to post it, but he did decide to post it, and he absolutely deserves criticism for that stupid decision. My point was that I think it was a stupid decision on the part of a young kid who didn't realize the impact or ramifications of his actions. Obviously they went to Aokigahara on purpose but I think they were genuinely surprised when they actually found what appeared to be a real dead body. Maybe this was all part of the plan, but his reaction in the video looked to me to genuinely be that of someone who didn't know how to deal with what he just saw. Maybe I'm wrong and this whole thing was far more calculated than I think, but I've seen his movies and frankly he's not that good an actor.

Again, though, I'm not condoning what he did. It was shitty and stupid but I think it was fueled by the thoughtlessness of a young man rather than anymore more exploitative.

Honestly, the sooner we stop giving these YouTubers attention, the better. He just got millions of views by people who never heard of him wondering what he did that was so bad.

The sad thing is, though, that the one thing that SHOULD be talked about from this video but isn't is how serious suicide is and if you need help, get help. He even put suicide help line information at the end of the video. But no, everyone wants to talk about how stupid Logan Paul is. He's a rich kid that's always going to do stupid things so there's no point in talking about it.

Watched a couple of his vlogs earlier. He was such a **** on his visit to Japan. Aside from the controversial video he uploaded about the suicide forest, he was disrespectful to people, acting like a total twat, and smashing a gameboy pocket on the floor twice in public after buying it.

I am glad I watch these attention seeking youtubers.

ok, i get the genuinely surprised reaction part, that is understandable... but i am assuming the TC is implying that he edited it and then proceeded to laugh about it, then posted it for his viewers.... so that is a not a stupid thing or a weird way of reacting to death in his own way,... that is a calculated sickening move on his part, no way to justify or give him any defense.

The kid looks like a tool. Another site showed stills from what I would assume was a video of him in a foreign land. Such stills made me question why anyone would give the time of day to a person who looks and obviously acts like a schmuck.

@Byshop: That's all fine and well, but "doing something shitty because you're a young kid" (despite the fact that 22 is adult aged) and "doing something shitty because you're carefully calculating a media response" both still result in "deliberately doing something shitty."

You said it yourself: it was a shitty thing to do and he deserves all the criticism that he gets. So honestly, whether he did it because he's young and stupid or because he's trying to be calculative and manipulative, I don't think it matters.

I will say that if his judgement is so poor that he went through all of the effort to make and release the video, and thought it was a good idea the entire time, then he really needs to rethink his career.

I agree with Byshop.

Having watched the video, Logan and his friends appeared to be more in shock and were overall very uncomfortable, which is where I saw the laughter arising from, not that he was carelessly mocking what happened and was getting a kick out of it as many are trying to frame it.

Nevertheless, still a severe lack of judgement for posting it and little respect shown towards the passed.

But if you look at this guys video of his trip to Japan he clearly has the maturity of a 12 year old and it's sick to think he is the "role model" for a lot of kids who watch his videos and think that behaving disrespectful and shit on another country's people is ok.

Well, the debate here isn't "should he be tried as an adult for committing a crime?" I'm nearly twice his age and I don't know anyone who's even in their 30s who doesn't look back and cringe at who they were when they were in their early 20s. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have done the same at that age were I in a similar situation, but by the time I was 22 I had already dealt with the death of three immediate family members. Most people that age (thankfully) haven't had to deal with something like that so I am more inclined to give someone a pass. Does he deserve criticism and backlash? Absolutely.

As for whether intent matters, I guess we can agree to disagree on that one. I think intent -should- be factored because there's a word of difference between doing something that hurt others because you didn't realize that it would hurt others or doing something that you knew would hurt others but doing it anyway because you wanted to hurt people or because it benefited you in some way and you don't care who gets hurt. One of those is an error in judgement while the others are malicious. Good intentions shouldn't always be able to trump poor actions depending on the actions, but in this case I think he made a mistake.

I'm glad PewDiePie came up because I would consider him to be the other end of the spectrum. This one action hasn't gotten me to the point of "yeah, **** that guy" with Logan Paul, but I got there with PewDiePie a long time ago. The first time I heard of PewDiePie making a Nazi joke, my reaction was similar to my reaction to Logan Paul, which was "okay, that's fucked up but he's probably a dumb kid who made a mistake because he didn't realize how/why what he did was really fucked up". But as the racial/anti-semetic controversies kept occurring over and over again with this kid, the less significant each successive apology became. It's hard to buy an explanation like "I didn't realize how this would anger people" when it's a lesson he should have learned from any of the last dozen times he did basically the same thing. At this point my thinking on PDP is that either he really just doesn't give a shit how much he pisses people off with this crap or he realizes how it does but he can't help himself from slipping up constantly because despite what he says he's actually got a fair amount of racism/anti-semitism bubbling just below the surface. Either way I was pretty done with PDP several incidents ago.

I love when the Japanese guys dancing and laughing with Paul Logan reply to him and he's friends: Don't get cocky, and don't push your luck" (Amari choushi ni noruna)then he recites it over and over while thinking it means party party or what ever it is that goes on with someone who has 15 million views, and guess what the Japanese guy warned him and knew he was a dumb gaijin.

Aside from his stupid action, this is what most tourist hate about some Americans. They come to a foreign country and act all superior. His visit to Japan is full of horrible things I wouldn't want anyone doing on my country. He's an entitled spoiled brat, who doesn't feel sorry for what he did.

This one is pretty simple. the guy is a goof ball. spends his life being a goofball. its his work. he never stops to think and be serious. it went to far this time and he realized it and apologized. but people just cant let it be. all these jackass kids these days gotta be offended to the grave by everything. cut the kid a break hes hilarious and we all make mistakes. not everything has to be controversy and drama. grow up.

Basing a brand off your own idiocy (which is his brand in a nutshell) is a surefire way to let karma build up and ultimately pop like this.

Why do people on the internet choose to support jackasses? I mean, why let these people climb as high as they do? Just look at all his other videos and this dead body video is not just an isolated incident. His apology video is anything but authentic when he has a track record that spans way beyond his Japan trip. This guy is a jackass in just about everything he does, a certified tool.

What do these "personalities" offer that entices people to watch them or follow them?

It's "for the lulz" culture, pretty much the cultural backbone of the internet that's been around since the early days. People don't really look for meaningful pieces on the internet wisdom as much as they find cat videos and prank artists way more enticing than actual substance.

Paul Logan, he really only capitalizes on the niche of the online web to flourish his own brand based on having a character that's loud, obnoxious, annoying and rude in a regular world. He is also a massive, egotistical tool. I guess it's a great lesson, if you're going to start your own business, always know the integrity of your own brand. If it's based around controversy it can only go on for so long before it crashes.

Looks like YouTube finally took action on Logan Paul, not like it'll ruin his career or anything.

didnt get to watch the video, but can someone tell me what the exact joke he made was upon discovery of the suicide body? All i know is he laughed, didn't know how to react, and made jokes, but what was the actual sickening joke in terms of his words? was it like "hahaha u killed urself" or something sick like that? what were his words aside from his laughter?

@Livecommander: uhhhhhhhh... i dont know, thats kinda why i was asking...... some (well, lots) of people will actually refuse to watch the video, so they dont know when he laughed or what he actually said. All the articles on this are vague with that regard. I still haven't been filled in with the details, and may actually sucumb to watching it, put i prob wont in the end. its gross sounding.

Same. I'm sure it's repulsive behavior. But haven't had much in the way of details. Also, they show blurry images of corpses on mainstream news on a daily basis.
