That's a RAID 0 setup and not a real terrabyte...
Here is a real one...Â

I doubt he would've posted that if it wasnt 1TB :P
The article just states that theyre introducing a 1TB HDD "after" their release of a 750mb HDD last year. So what it means is, 750mb HDD has been release last year, so theyre introducing a 1TB HDD this year (yes my paragraph was going in circles  )
LOL What a rip off! Thats just 2, 500 gig drives in RAID 0 for $675?!?!
Just buy 2 of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152052Â for $129 and do it yourself for $260!!Â
And if you wanted them in an external case you could get one of those for like $50 - $75.

OH,thanks...so 1 terebyte is like 1000 gigs? Iv heard about terebytes but I'vn ever really understood what it is
The 1TB drives are all Hitachis right now with Seagate supposedly being the next to put one out. They aren't really cost effective though. They are slower than the 500gb and cost more than twice as much.nosferatu
You might want to read the review.
The 1Tb Hitachi is very close to Raptor performance, with about 7x the storage capacity. That means it is a bit better then a 500gb.
Except there are no external cases that I've seen that can house two (or more) hard drives together for that price. Certainly nothing using SATA.LOL What a rip off! Thats just 2, 500 gig drives in RAID 0 for $675?!?!

I've read more than just the one review on the drive. What I said, that a pair of 500gb drives is still the better choice by a tiny margin, was the general consensus amongst them.
well actually a 1 terabyte drive is not 1000 gigs.its more like 975 gigs since hard drive companies use bits instead of bytes to determine the size.if you want a drive that is 1 terabyte wait until 1250 or maybe 1120 drives come out.KandyKornMan
He's right. Multiply the alleged space by .93 to find the real amount of GB (1024 MB not 1000 MB). I believe some HD companies are getting sued over this false advertising, though they do have it in the fine print...Â
Nosferatu:
The RAID 0 setups are going to be faster than a single drive, but will also be inherently less reliable. RAID 0 means that you have the same amount of data striped across two drives so performance is improved, but if either drive fails you lose everything on both drives.
KandyKornMan:
The difference between drive sizes as reported by the manufacturer as opposed to how it's reported on by the OS is due to a difference of decimal and binary bytes (not between bits and bytes, which are of the same scale.

1 terabyte is 1,024 gigabytes. It's just like KB -> MB -> GB. TB is just the next one on the list.Â
Â
i don't know why HDs are getting so big, i don't even use 60gb
so, if for the same price of a bigger and slower HD, you can get a smaller and faster, go to the 2nd one.
marlonsm
i have about 20 games installed right now and about 15HD movies, the games are anywhere from 3gb - 8gb each and the movies can range from 4-25gb each
i also have about 6000 songs, many other apps, and all the other standard stuff takes alot of space
oh and i just did a format about a week ago..it adds up fastÂ
Any statement along the lines of "you'll never use that much" is ridiculous. Intel thought it likely that we'd never need more than 640kilobytes for applications (NOT Bill Gates as this is often misattributed to) but now most games require 1 gigabyte of RAM only a dozen or so years later. The FAT16 file system only allowed for 2 gigabyte partitions because it at the time that was all that was practically needed at the time. That's to limitations in LBA, a limit of 127gig applied to early versions of Windows XP.
Every time there's a limit, we surpass it (and usually sooner than we thought we would). While you might not use 1TB, I already posted that I have -more- data than that in my house spread across several computers.
