My tv is a 52inch RCA cathode ray tube model D52W19. I have never seen a CRT tv with 1080p before. 1080i and 420p works on my tv but 720p doesn't. I tried the official RCA website but it only gave me user guide and nothing on resolutions other that it has 1097 horizontal lines. This may sound stupid but, if i use it's DVI port(it doesnt have HDMI) would it be able to display at 1080p? I want to know or else I would just use the component cable as they are just as good as DVI at 1080i...or are they?RavenLoudDVI is equivalent to HDMI, which is a pure digital signal. Component is inferior.

Use 1080i. It will look great on that set. DVI > Component.

CRT displays are the best television displays you can buy, they are better than LCDs, plasmas, DLP and basically any fixed pixel digital display when it comes to depth of black, contrast, color saturation, detail and basically better performers in picture quality. 1080i is basically 1080p, but it is in interlaced format, which is half the pixel information (think 1920*540 real pixels, seperated by 1 pixel to appear 1920*1080).While CRTs are not fixed pixel displays,Early generation CRT based HDTVs used 7 inch CRTtubes (guns) which given a resolution of 540p, which given the 1080i signal was easier to send since it is half the information of 1080p. larger guns offered higher resolutions and even better performance, with 9 inch guns are the best and have resolutions beyond 1080p.With CRTs, bigger is better.
