1080p, or a similar resolution...has probably been possible for around 10 years, but most devs didnt really put it into games up will about 5-7 years ago.
[QUOTE="mrbojangles25"]since1440x1080 resolution (the resolution of most widescreen 1080i TVs)has been available. In other words, about 10+ years.greatmax1
i though it was 1920*1080...? Anyways, they have been around for quite a while, even higher resolutions have been around for a long time.
technically thats correct, but according to wikipedia they scaled it down to 1440 for most TVs because movies are filmed at that ratio iirc.
thats wikipedia, though, so take it with a grain of salt. It might be wrong.
The better question is when will 1080p be standard on consoles. Aside from virtual tennis, I haven't heard of any console games that natively display at 1080p. Hell, even halo and cod upscale to 720p.
If you don't use a PC with your 1080p TV, odds are you are not taking advantage of your TV.
